• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

If the emotions are not high.. where is the pure desire?

No offense.. but if I found out someone was being nice to me to fulfill some Christian obligation I would feel cool and have no connection with them.
It's not something Christians are obligated to do. In a sense, it flows out of who we are in Jesus. In other words, we love because we want to; not have to. If that sounds too Christianese to you I'm sorry. They'll be other times to be a fool. But that's the only way I can answer that. Then there's the charismatic church environment. But even those members (if their worth their salt) would have to agree that emotions fall in order: Truth, faith/obedience, and then emotions.

Seems like a more genuine act of love. Despite our society probably viewing it as highly shallow. I think it better matches our evolutionary psychology.
Well, now I know what your primary love language is. (Notwithstanding the monkey brain mentality)..Probably receiving gifts by the sound of it. Lol

No.. I don't get love languages.. and how something so abstract can be narrowed down like that.

If it is something they want to do shouldn't they have no problem with the emotional aspect?

Have you ever taken the test to see for yourself if it was accurate to your own life?

I'd have to say yes barring any outside controls or stimuli that clearly isn't from God.
That's something I've been pursuing personally. Getting back to what we first opened up discussion with (being ourselves). It's a liberating thing.

Well as an atheist I don't think it's safe for me to pursue any further with this discussion.

Oh come on.. a test? We know so little about the human brain.. and the psychology of others.. any test that claims to know your "love language" is probably garbage.

Fair enough. But you have one more question left on the table, Ned. What say you about the love languages? Have you taken the assessment?

Your secular shrinks use tests all the time. I know, I've been to my fair share of them.
Remember, Jeff, it's not the absence of these things that's keeping you from life complete; it's your suppression of them.

I hardly respect any "secular shrink".

What's your love language Latifah?

By the way, was it the part where I alluded to sin being a deal breaker for the life we all want to live? I get it.

Gifts. And it's a wonder too. I would have guessed my parents would've broken that one for me years ago.

Gifts? Giving or receiving or both? One is probably more female and the other more masculine, lol..
