  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

They're also interesting because in some respects very little has changed. People are still marrying for love, and people are still marrying for money.

I would never marry for money but I understand why it happened during that period. Inheritance laws and limited opportunities for women would stretch the purse.

I don’t need someone immensely wealthy. But you can’t be a spendthrift or frugal. I’m not like that.

It never ceases to amaze me the impact the ‘right woman’ can have on a man. If he gives his ear to one who walks with God you’ll see the difference. She affects him positively and is a good influence. She doesn’t enable poor behavior. She inspires betterment.

I'm thinking about the Greek alphabet. Yep.

7sQJbY.png
I only know the Greek alphabet from going through rush twice. I had 17 houses to go through. I was hoping to be a gamma phi beta but ended up getting booted out of the process because of my GPA by .05. I had a warning before that happened while doing a quiet time, but because I had never experienced hearing the voice of Lord and my mentor said the worst that could happen was that I wouldn't get in. I was devastated but the next semester my GPA was the highest it had ever been. It was a confirmation that it was the Lord's voice that I heard not to continue with Rush.

I was just thinking something similar today as I was visiting a church. It had very few people but I noticed mostly men. I began to wonder if they all at one time were widowed and they continued to go to church because of the memories of their late wife. I always have curiosity when I see more men than women in a church... Because many times there are a lot of women that become dominant and there's men that don't even step into some Churches because they seem too feminine. . If that makes any sense.

The word "Delta" sends my mind to the Nile river. I forgot it was a Greek letter. The shape of that letter resembles a pyramid.
The shape of the Greek alphabet is quite interesting. When I see cars with it on the back, I begin trying to figure out what it is. And if it's a fraternity or sorority I have heard of before. And I know some of them are solely charity based. Not just colleges.

Yes it does. The comment hailed from a recent experience with an acquaintance. I look at his feed every now and then.

I sent an email Friday and shared a song. It provided an opportunity to talk about love and eventually led to a challenge of sorts. I asked him where’s the light and wondered if he’d share his thoughts. I told him I wanted to see his depths.

His comments began to shift little by little. Today he spent an hour discussing relationships. The tone and content were along the lines of statements he made long ago.

I thanked him for expounding and commended the return of the old. That’s the person I knew. I reminded him how we interacted in the past. Not only he and I; but others in our circle. We kept it classy and were the cream of the crop.

Its doubtful others would say the same or encourage him to embrace a higher standard. I can because I know him. Its absence suggests they aren’t doing that. It was a gentle nudge. Nothing major. But helpful nonetheless.

Men view going to churches as too feminine? I do have a personal theory that spirituality is more attractive to women compared to men, mainly due to spirituality being emotionally empathy centric.

I thought they were all linked to colleges. I never went to a serious or major college so I didn't experience any of the fraternities or sororities. Probably for the better but who knows, could have been fun.

Interesting thought. You may be on to something.

So I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but you're saying that possibly your gender helped nudge him in a better direction to be a better person? Returning to something maybe he had forgotten? I do think there is something in having opposite gender friendships that can add to one's life. Giving a bit of a balance. I could be reading this wrong, it's a little past my bedtime.

I have read some studies that women tend to be more spiritual on average compared to men. In the more male dominated past.. women were often quite visible within the history of Christianity.

I used to think so also until I was at a small town dentist office and the scale was promoting the fraternity that she's part of in that town that is a service for fraternity. I believe she called it a fraternity and that surprised me cuz fraternity is usually for men. Here's something I found on Wikipedia
Service fraternities and sororities - Wikipedia
