It's interesting to look at different cultures around the world. Us whities are always looking for ways to get darker, but over in areas in the east, like Indonesia, if they have darker skin, they're desperate to lighten it. I forgot what the process was called, but it's as big as us going to tanning beds here in the west.
For me it's just because I already have that olive tint from my Puerto Rican side. When I don't get sun it looks a little green and sickly. My sister got the Irish pure white skin and she looks lovely without a tan.
