I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. I have prayed for you, sir. *salutes*

Thank you. I plan to talk to my doctor about it on Monday.

I made it home just now, deciding to unwind at Mule Kick on my way in. Luckily I have a few days before Materion calls to let me know if they want me to play with them or not (the expression I remember my very first boss ever using with me on my first day of work, the one who looked like Santa Claus with a trimmed beard ^_^ ). So I will use this time to see if I can find a decent place to live there that will still be affordable. Materion will pay 30% LESS than what I left Albemarle at, so it won't be easy.

But if I decide that I can't, then, you know what? Okay. Hey, I tried. I ventured out despite my fear, and I think I can be satisfied with just that much for now. I can revisit this in another 5 to 10 years, Lord willing my life will not be forfeit by then, or simply make moving North something to do when I retire, saving up a lot to do so with Albemarle. In the meantime, if I do turn down the job in Niagara Falls, I can at least make a smaller change in my life by moving apartments within town. Which I am already looking at. I'd at least like to have a washer and dryer in my own place again. ^_^

I must say, a pity I would be hard pressed to afford this place in Buffalo, NY, where my job at Materion would be. It would account for at least half of my net pay per month. But it ticks every box with me. XD

Also, I just thought I would point out that all three of my interviewers at Materion were rather pretty young women in their twenties and thirties. Only Sarah's Knight could be so fortunate in this particular manner.

And more seriously, I am grateful that the ladies held a demeanor that put me at ease throughout the interview. They never made me feel put on the spot or anything at all.

*sigh* If only the starting pay was just 4 or 5 more an hour, then I think this would work. But, unfortunately, along with passion for the job, as I do take some pride in being more of a jack of all trades when it comes to being a lab worker, a man also has to give consideration to the money aspect ... especially if the good Lord proves so gracious as to one day place a wonderful Lady Knight in my life for me to also take care of.

I was out for a walk yesterday and tripped over what appeared to be a sprinkler head and seriously hurt my shoulder in a failed attempt to break my fall. :(
Yikes! Hope you feel better soon :(

Thank you. It's feeling a lot better now, but not 100% yet. The downside to all this is that it was my left shoulder that was affected, and I'm very lefthanded.

This may be a dangerous place to ask this question, but yolo.

Men- would you ever consider taking your wife’s last name if you got married?

Yes. ^-^

Of course you ... probably weren't expecting a different answer from me in particular. :D

How are you these days, by the way, Miss Ariel?

I haven’t really thought about it, I guess if it was that important then sure I’d consider it.

I know someone that took their wife’s name because his surname was very common in Sweden and hers was an English name.

I’m doing well- finally got my first teaching position! Unfortunately I interviewed for/accepted the job only a couple weeks before the start of school so I’ve been extremely busy scrambling to get my classroom together :dead: but I’m excited!

How are you doing of late, Sir Knight?

For me as a teacher my last name is what I’m known by. I have shirts, decorations, engraved cups, pens, friendship bracelets from kids all with my last name on it. I would be sad to give it all up if I didn’t have to.

That is good to hear. I will be praying for your success and personal satisfaction with this path. ^-^

I'm okay. :) I was successful at my interview with Materion in Niagara Falls last week - quite the long distance for a knight to journey and defeat the evil dragon! - and offered the job yesterday, but unless my old job does not take me back when I interview hopefully this Friday, I fear I must turn it down, due almost entirely for financial reasons and the fact that the daily environment there looks to be a bit of an oppressive experience with no music allowed. Everyone I met there seemed nice, so that's a plus, but still, I must consider the money aspect.

So again, unless my old job at Albemarle turns me down in a few days (so far they seem happy at the thought of having me back, though), I will remain here in the South for some years more. I will at least find a new place to live within town, for a change of home environment, and on top of that, I feel satisfied that I took this chance to venture out North the last few months like I did, even if it may not be viable for now. I can always revisit the prospect again another ten years or so ... and Lord willing He preserves my life for that long, who's to say I cannot go there once I retire?

.... I am tickled that you referred to me as "Sir Knight", also. That kind of made my evening. ^-^

I don't think I would, and I'm aware that it's centuries of conditioning that make it feel too weird to me.

But there's also a practical reason in that I've built up a professional reputation under my name, so I'd be reluctant to change that. There's also the hassle involved. My sister got married last year and ran into a few snags when changing her name to her husband's, even though it should be a fairly standard process, and it may very well be even more complicated if I were to try to change my name.

Having said all that, I wouldn't insist on my wife taking my name. It would be entirely up to her, and if she didn't want to then then I wouldn't have an issue with that.

I would never take any insult if a woman I were with wanted to leave her name as is, and it's especially understandable in situations like that.

It’s possible to just retain both surnames too.

That’s very common in academia where you’ve published research, and especially common in medicine for the same reason.

Most people at work go by their birth surnames but are married.

Yeah, I think most of my teachers by their last names rathe than their first names. It's something that is almost pogrommed in us.
