Are you still in touch with anyone you knew online in the beginning?
Nope, they all quit talking to me, I believe most just got tired of the internet as it is common to happen especially when they have family and friends they no longer need people that they never met online.
That is nuts. Chat rooms could be something like that with so many people commenting, it was hard to keep up. But that's intense. 1003 post in less than thirty minutes.
It wasn't chat in that thread people just wanted the blessings and were posting as fast as they could. Back then blessings were the thing to have as everything was customizable. I enjoyed having colored text and font and size and everyone had an avatar and you had to pay for everything you customize including adding your pic on your posts. They had these dollies where you could dress them up in clothes and add weapons, animals, cars, like a picture and people had contests and you had to buy the stuff with blessings. Reputation was exponential and wasn't like "likes" today people repped you and it increased your rep by whatever rep power that they had and some folks had extremely high rep such that it would blast them up a ton from a few hundred to thousands. My reps were changed to likes when they dropped the system and blessings are pretty much worthless as the only thing that you can use them for is name change and a month or so of ad free etc which the half a million blessings I started with would get me about 5 months ad free and I would have to post for a decade to get another 6 months....
Back then there were tons of people playing around in the blessings exchange and games and such now there is less than half a dozen most of the time. All the other messengers and chat places I've been to come and go. This one has dropped to about 5% of what it once was in the fun area, they make most of their revenue from controversy here...... politics is where most of the action is that is kind of why they don't shut it down I guess.

Wow, this is a lot different. I wonder why they got rid of that. Sounds fun.

cost. The original owner tried making the forum into a secular forum ridding it of the Christianforums name changing it to foru.ms and there was such a push back on it that he ended up changing the name back and decided to sell it and the next owner updated the forum software and some features that were customized no longer worked and not much was done to restore them and that owner sold it to the next owner and so on with the current forum software not the original and totally incompatible with the original forum features thus pretty much all of them is nerfed all that remains is what normal features are supported by the current software.
With each change in ownership people left the forum but the first change a lot left for facebook and other platforms. The current status is it looks like most of their income is from the politics section these days or other controversial threads instead of fellowship and fun.

That's interesting. Even now, I find CF to be a much better platform for discussion than FB, in terms of mechanics. I would much rather have a discussion here; it's much easier to respond and hold a conversation.

I've never been interested in FB at all. As a former IT person and been around in the early days of the internet I couldn't see them making a lot of money in advertising and heard early on about problems protecting personal information. I refused to get on there if I couldn't be mostly anonymous and I pretty much figured out they were selling personal information to advertisers. I also knew that sooner or later some stuff on the internet would likely never be erased. We are seeing things people put on the internet from a dozen years back haunting them now and they didn't get paid to reveal such things either IMO they were unwise. I know Google and FB and twitter are others are using cookies to track stuff but in reality I don't really do or say much online that can profit anyone with the exception of buying stuff I need.

I don't put pictures either online I do sometimes tell folks what city I live in because the metropolitan area here is about 1 million or so good luck on anyone finding me without a picture.

It is really strange how quickly we all acclimated to putting our info out there, or just how easily we started paying for things online. I was very hesitant, at first. Even at work, when we went paperless, I was like- I don't know if that's the best idea. But we did and so far, so good. Still, part of me feels it's not the best direction.

I don't like to do too much online myself. Imagine that you are giving a personal note to someone down the street a block away and hand an envelope to your next door neighbor and they in turn hands it to the next till it finally gets there.... internet servers can be hacked and so can wifi routers and computers and phones etc. The internet is not totally safe but we are pretty much stuck dealing with it because trying to do things without it is getting harder and harder and more expensive. I already have about 40 different passwords from various websites and other stuf that I cannot remember I have to write them down on paper because even password managers can be hacked and I'm certainly not going to use one password for everything because then you have all your eggs in one basket and when that is dropped.... might as well like scrambled.

Kids are growing up way too trusting. They trust too much about the internet.... trust the media on TV and internet... trust their teachers.... trust politicians..... trust their peers. I've not trusted overly much in my life but one reason I'm a Christian is not because of trusting but because I finally decided to trust logic and put just enough faith in God that he supplied what helped dispel all the lies I believed from people I trusted in my life that drew me away from God in my teens till I was in my late 30s.

I have decided to stop reading the Book I have been reading. There is too much cursing and sexual content. -_- :(:(:(:(

I am now going to just read The Bible, Animal Encyclopedias, Animal Caretaking Books, History Books, Nature Books, and Pokemon Books.

A lot of Fiction Books (Especially Fantasy) contain cursing and sexual content. :(:(:(:(

I feel better now that I have decided to stop reading the Book I was reading. :):):):)

Read reviews online before you decide to buy/read books to see if they are pretty raunchy or not.

I didn't have the internet until I was about your age I joined a large BBS system prior to the internet in order to download patches to games and software for my first PC in 1991. I'm still using the original keyboard that I bought for it one my third computer not including all the upgrades I went through. I remember when everyone was using instant message clients and people were really thrilled when they finally got to voice message people because they were tired of texting. Spring forward till today and people don't want to voice message they want to text everyone......funny eh?

It's ironic how some things change and others do not. They just get better over time. I remember AIM and using that as my instant messenger and now Facebook Messenger. It's like if people want to communicate, there are multiple ways to do so, not just an old rotary phone, lol.
