  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

When you're in love with a song sometimes the best thing is to keep riding that wave. I've had the same song on repeat for hours.

For some reason I remember a night waaaaay long ago at my current job (this is my second tenure there) where I got so busy in my lab that I didn't even bother to take a few moments to turn my radio off of the repeat function when I somehow activated it a while before, thus ... O.A.R.'s "Shattered" ended up playing for almost two hours straight.

That time was lampshaded more than once by the guy working next door who could easily hear the music. And so, "turn the car around" became a meme between us for the rest of my year there that first go-round, in reference to what we should be doing every time we are tempted to do what is expected of all able-bodied employed folks and come to work every day. ^_^

..... And now I'm tempted to listen to it again just talking about it.

And now, thinking back on my first tenure there back in 2008, my how SK's musical tastes have evolved and expanded to include so much more than stuff like Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" and O.A.R.'s "Shattered". Over the course of 14 years.

Tonight, for instance, we had the Muda Kingdom theme from the Gameboy game Super Mario Land, "Genius" from K-On! (which I recommended to @Somber earlier ^_^ ), ... and the Cinema Snob's review of an old James Bond movie, among the entries to my current playlist. I listen to more than just music, oftentimes, too. Every now and again a newer person to the lab who just hadn't been through my sector enough times at an inopportune moment will be surprised to hear Snob making a bad joke at an exploitation film director's expense or Todd in the Shadows yelling at the misogynistic lyrics of a Chris Brown song, instead of actual music coming from my radio. ^_^

am still a bit under the weather and fatigued, although feeling a bit better than a few days ago and the worst of my symptoms have passed. Thank you ever so kindly.:hug::hug::hug:
Prayers for you and that you will be feeling much better.

houses from my childhood it's like walking into the past or something. Places almost feel more nostalgic than people if that makes sense.
That's interesting. It's interesting how one place represents something completely different to another. Yours actually makes more sense. I can't figure out why mine keep popping up. Otherwise I'm in completely different houses that I have never seen before, sometimes I will draw a diagram of the house that I was in.

You remind me of someone I knew that had elaborate dreams that she could remember well and felt like they lasted days. Almost as if she had another life in her dreams
That's also interesting. I think it's something that is a gift for certain people. My half sister and I we inherited that gift from our father. Her mother never had any of that. So I know it comes from her. And my biological mother has dreams but not the way that my father, sister and I do. The three of us have the creative bug also, but my sister and I are so different in our friendships and creativity avenues.

Apparently, a new proposal for a project that I assisted with last year is going to be submitted. This comes as a surprise, as I thought that project was dead in the water, but it was just a matter of funding. Long sto

I just want to listen to it again...
I've done this so many times, I don't worry about it. Some songs do get ruined, but some are classic. Or it helps me identify with a year that I loved that song.

Someone once told me about a radio station that they were having their last 24 hours with the song It's the end of the world. My friend told me that it was really catchy, I think it might have been a radio station in Minnesota. I tried playing it multiple times and was really surprised how catchy that song could be. I can't imagine it playing for 24 hours though.

It has been probably two years now since I last had a theatre-going experience, so, I'll be going 45 minutes away to El Dorado tonight to see the fifth Scream movie, once I've gotten some sleep now that work is over. I have no idea if actress Neve Campbell came back for this one or not, but if she did, then I hope she manages to survive yet again. Her character of Sydney Prescott was always my favorite "Final Girl" in all of slasher movie history. ^-^

All four previous Scream films I ended up liking more or less, so hopefully I will find the fifth one to be agreeable as well. I'll be sure to dress in an entirely black suit and wire-framed glasses, and sit cross-legged at the theatre tonight to carefully weight the pros and cons of the movie as it plays onscreen in that hopefully-uncrowded darkened room ... like a true film snob. ^_^

Scream-2022-1.jpg

(Oh, well, nevermind.:p Finally bothered to google search a poster image for this movie and Neve's right there. ^_^ So she will be in this movie ... hopefully not as the opening victim. .... And, cool! The kid from the 2015 Goosebumps movie - which I surprisingly liked and found very entertaining - will be there too!)

You're brave. I have not seen a scary movie in a long time. I used to love them and watch them as a teenager. But after I became a Christian everything changed that it scared me. I even used to create haunted houses and I would scare my younger cousin all the time. There are some beautiful people that are in that though.

And I came across a news article 2 days ago with Drew Barrymore, I think she was in one of them and she was younger and she thought she was pregnant while she was dating somebody. She turned to Courtney Cox for guidance I guess because she was the older one. She ended up not being pregnant.
Enjoy the movie, there's a lot of people that like horror films.

But after I became a Christian everything changed that it scared me.
Well, don't get me wrong. I certainly have particular boundaries to where I still find some things outright distasteful in the realm of horror - "too far", for lack of a better term - and will have nothing to do with them, finding no redeeming value or artistic merit. I despise things in fiction that seem to be done solely for the shock value, for instance.

.... Which is why guys like Seth MacFarlane really get on my nerves.

You are correct on Miss Drew Barrymore. :) She was there only for the opening sequence of the very first film, actually, and there's a cool story I have heard about that. Because she was such a big name at the time, being the late 90's and all ^-^, they wanted her to be in the role of the surviving heroine, none other than Sydney Prescott herself. But apparently Drew graciously stepped aside for Neve Campbell and offered to be the first victim who wouldn't make it to the ten-minute mark, instead, for the sake of film integrity. She believed in the writer's and director's vision for the movie so much that she was willing to take a step down. You see, Drew thought it would have a huge impact on the viewers if such a big name star like herself was killed off so easily and early on in the movie. The viewers would then be inclined to think "oh! So ... no one is safe!" And so it would hold a lot of tension and interest in the movie for them. ^-^

Enjoy the movie, there's a lot of people that like horror films.
Thanks, Sampa. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable one. With "Goosebumps kid" (as I call Dylan Minette since I liked him so much in the Goosebumps movie) also present, it will be interesting to see he and Neve Campbell possibly team up to fight back against the killer ... unless of course he turns out to be the killer.:p

That's funny that it became a meme to you guys. I'm usually conscious not to replay things too much when other people can hear because most think more than two or three times in a row is excessive lol. For you it sounds like a circumstantial thing where for me some people would think I'm crazy how often I've done that.

Then again, some will see the same movie twenty times or rewatch a show over and over though.

That's interesting. It's interesting how one place represents something completely different to another. Yours actually makes more sense. I can't figure out why mine keep popping up. Oh I'm in random houses all the time. That's impressive you remember dream houses enough to draw them.

It could be genetic or something your dad passed down in his essence of being. What I was thinking earlier is maybe you are dreaming with your whole heart. Or maybe I've watched too many horror movies to want to remember my dreams so I'm less likely to recall them.

Thanks for the explanation. I have remember that from the past but that's intelligent to have a twist like that. Yes a-listers usually don't get killed off right away. So it leaves an element of surprise. I'm a big fan of Drew Barrymore ever since she did the movie fire starter as a child. I've seen a lot of her life outside and sort of in the movies similar to my own character. I don't know how to explain it why I've been drawn to her work. With all the working that you have been doing, I really hope that this is a treat for you. You definitely need it.

That's interesting. I thought most people would be in houses they are familiar with.

As far as recall, I really don't understand that. But I do know the ones that I have drawn usually became lucid dreams. I start looking around and I start taking note and I'm like I need to remember this and I need to remember that I want to remember this when I wake up. It's kind of fun and there's a certain energy and vividness that you draw when you realize you're in a dream but you want to soak in every detail so you don't lose it.

Nightmares, are another story and I tried to forget them as much as I can. For example, I had a very vivid dream and many many details that happened three nights ago with sounds and various details, but seeing my stepfather who is still alive shot is something I don't wish to recall. And I think the only reason I had that dream is because I overheard him on the phone trying to get his end of life details sorted out with a professional.

I don't know if I've ever drawn in a dream. That sounds pretty cool. You're probably an artist so it makes sense that you would. I'm betting being visually oriented might help with your dream recall but it's just a hunch.

My grandma talks about that sort of stuff, "end of life details", a lot. I tell myself she'll live a long time even though she's older because she has a better memory than most people and is still very energetic.

ohh, maybe I should clarify, I never drew anything in the dream but I noted everything and just kept walking from room to room or checking things out. Actually I'm not much of an artist, so it's rough diagrams. Anyways I hope that you will have that special experience with a lucid dream, as it can be a lot of fun. It was nice chatting with you about this topic.

I can totally relate! Sometimes when I find a song or a group of songs I love, I want to listen to them every day over and over again. I have had songs playing on repeat for a long time multiple times! And sometimes if you love a song enough you think "I could listen to this all day!" and that feeling lasts for months. ^_^

Yep, it's an awesome feeling. :) Music is one of the best ways to keep my mood up or get me feeling inspired. One of the songs I remember putting on repeat is this one because it's pure optimism and energy. It'd be cool if they put it in one of the Sonic movies.

One of my associates returned today,, recovered from Covid, thankfully.
So I had it worked out with someone from another store to cover my shift today since the doc is out of town, so I could have a 3 day weekend.

They figured since my associate was returning, they weren't needed and bailed on me. Fine, whatever.
I figured since my associate is coming back from Leave, I should make sure they read as active in the system, can clock in and clock out, and all that stuff. And I had asked the market director for one the award pins we give to people to recognize going above and beyond, which he didn't give me until she was on Leave.

So I figured I would go in, make sure everything was okay, welcome her back, give her the award, be a good manager, and head home early. Sounds doable, right?

Yeah, circumstances decided that was a bad plan, and now I'm closing all by myself. The joys of management ^_^
