I can't believe that you said that!!! That's the song that I ALWAYS play for someone if they haven't heard DT before (unless they are total metal-heads, then DT doesn't do a thing for them). I've don't know how many times I've sent that song to someone over MSN Messenger; many of the MSNers here can attest to that.;)
I can! How be-est thou, Breet? It's a very good song. I still love the sax part in it. I might get a CD of theirs soon.

The Beatles-In My Life

There are places I remember,
all my life, though some have changed
some forever not for better,
some have gone, and some remain,
all these places have their moments,
with lovers and friends, I still can recall,
some are dead and some are living,
In My Life, I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers,
there is no one, compares with you,
and these memories lose thier meaning,
when I think of love, as something new
though I know I'll never lose affection,
for people and things, that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In My Life, I love you more

though I know I'll never lose affection,
for people and things, that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In My Life, I love you more

In My Life, I love you more...

A man is crying, takes me to a certain place.
Which I don't often mind.
You see a family walking.
Always thinking of being somewhere else in
time.

So I fall face down in a rut.
I can't seem to get out of.

Please wake me.
Please give me some of me back.
The feelings I had.

Sometimes I wish I could be strong like you.
It doesn't matter.
Each time I wake I'm somehow feeling the truth.
I can't handle.

Let's get this party started.
I'm sick of being you.
You make me feel insane.
We don't give to you.
Let's get this party started.
You make me feel insane.
I want to be the one.
To make myself sane.

Time is ticking, it makes me feel content.
With what I have inside.
Constant paranoia surrounds me.
Everyone I see is out to get me.

So I fall face down in a rut.
I can't seem to get out of.
Please wake me.
Please give me some of me back.
The feelings I had.

Sometimes I wish I could be strong like you.
It doesn't matter.
Each time I wake I'm somehow feeling the truth.

I highlighted the most meaningfull points of the song.

This track is so raw... nobody hears enough about police brutality... this is a track that actually means something, and isn't meaningful because it was a product of "gifted musicianship"... this is meaningful because it's rooted in what's real and what's happening...

Meaningful songs? Well, that changes by the day for me, but here's one that always means a lot to me. I don't know why. It's just one of those songs that strikes a chord. It's stunningly beautiful and features one of Bono's best vocal efforts, especially on the 'toooniiiiiiiiiiiiiiight' and 'no spoken words, just a screeeeaaaaaam' parts. As random trivia, the guitar line is actually the line of Sunday Bloody Sunday, played in a different order (or so I'm told, I'm yet to check the tablature to confirm).

A Sort Of Homecoming
Written and performed by U2

And you know it's time to go
Through the sleet and driving snow
Across the fields of mourning
Light in the distance
And you hunger for the time
Time to heal, desire time
And your earth moves beneath your own dream landscape

Oh, oh, oh, on borderland we run
I'll be there, I'll be there
Tonight, a high road, a high road out from here

The city walls are all pulled down
The dust a smoke screen all around
See faces plowed like fields that once gave no resistance
And we live by the side of the road
On the side of a hill
As the valley explode
Dislocated, suffocated, the land grows weary of its own

Oh some way, oh come away, oh come, oh come away say I
Oh come away, oh come away, oh come, oh come away say I
Oh, oh, oh, on borderland we run
And still we run
We run and don't look back
I'll be there, I'll be there, tonight, tonight
I'll be there, tonight, I believe
I'll be there, somehow, I'll be there tonight, tonight

You come away and say you say, oh ah, you come away and say

The wind will crack in wintertime
This bomb-blast lightning waltz
No spoken words, just a scream
Tonight, we'll build a bridge across the sea and land
See the sky, the burning rain
She will die and live again tonight

And your heart beats so slow
Through the rain and fallen snow
Across the fields of mourning
Lights in the distance
Oh don't sorrow, nor don't weep
For tonight, at last, I am coming home
I am coming home

I used to be addicted to A Sort Of Homecoming, I would listen to It over and over again, I'm glad I have one of those master copies of The Unforgettable fire.

The most meaning for song for me Is Walk on, I even have it in my sig..

U2 Walk on

And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring...
And love is not the easy thing....
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on, walk on
What you got they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it
Walk on, walk on...
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

Walk on, walk on
What you've got they can't deny it
Can't sell it, can't buy it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on

Home… hard to know what it is if you've never had one
Home… I can't say where it is but I know I'm going home
That's where the hurt is

I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind
All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you steal
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason
All that you sense
All that you speak
All you dress up
All that you scheme…

What a great thread!

Like many of you, waayyy too many great songs to sift through. So here are the ones that are meaningful to me in the sense that that they have meant something to me for years and reflect in part things that are true to life for me. The first ones to pop into my dome:

rearviewmirror - Pearl Jam
Hidden - Adam Again
Standing Up For Nothing - Caedmon's Call

Get the live album, "once in a live time" has a longer sax solo on that song.
I think that is the version that I've been giving everyone on MSN. The only version that I actually own is the original one from Falling into Infinity. I like the live one with the sax better, so that's the one that I show off. The Falling CD is the first DT disc that I owned, but Change of Seasons is the one that got me into DT.

Ya Arwen, I'm all moved in and have been working at my new job for over two weeks now. Kelowna, BC is honestly the most beautiful place that I have ever lived in. I don't regret coming here at all, except that I am even further away from my family now. It's literally a 24 hr. drive, if not more, to get "home". I was just rollerblading on the lakeside beach parkway after work today; looking for a good gym to get a membership at. I'm only looking at one's with hot tubs and saunas.;) The one I was at today had a hot tub right off of the lake! Sweet! I think I'll keep going to that gym. The steep membership fee is totally worth it. ($60/mo.):D

Back on topic, my meaningful song right now is track 3 from the Surfing with an Alien album by Joe Satriani. It's great for me because I was in a rollerblading/workingout mood and didn't want any meaningful lyrics. I needed something to give me that last burst of adrenaline of the day. Songs like that one totally do it and are, therefore, very meaningful for a killer workout and skate alone the beach.

Sounds great - and beautiful, B! I totally agree that Joe Satriani makes good workout music. That's a good song, Crushing Day. I like pretty much everything from Flying In A Blue Dream too. I saw Satriani with Steve Vai and Eric Johnson - great show. I think I like Eric Johnson a tad bit better, he can really make his gi-tar sing! :)

I think that "Asleep in the Light" by Keith Green is truly one of the greatest songs EVER to be recorded. His musicianship, vocals, and lyrics are piercing and convicting.

Asleep in the Light

Do you see, do you see
All the people sinking down?
Don't you care, don't you care
Are you gonna let them drown?

How can you be so numb
Not to care if they come
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done

"Oh bless me Lord, bless me Lord"
You know it's all I ever hear
No one aches, no one hurts
No one even sheds one tear

But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds
And He cares for your needs
And you just lay back
And keep soaking it in,
Oh, can't you see it's such a sin?

Cause He brings people to your door,
And you turn them away
As you smile and say,
"God bless you, be at peace"
And all heaven just weeps
Cause Jesus came to you door
You've left him out on the streets

Open up open up
And give yourself away
You see the need, you hear the cries
So how can you delay?

God's calling and you're the one
But like Jonah you run
He's told you to speak
But you keep holding it in,
Oh can't you see it's such a sin?

The world is sleeping in the dark
That the church just can't fight
Cause it's asleep in the light
How can you be so dead
When you've been so well fed?
Jesus rose from the grave
And you, you can't even get out of bed

Oh, Jesus rose from the dead
Come on, get out of your bed

How can you be so numb
Not to care if they come?
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done

Don't close your eyes
Don't pretend the job's done
Come away, come away, come away with Me my love,
Come away, from this mess, come away with Me, my love.
Steve Camp did an excellent cover of this song on his album "shake me to wake me". He put a little bit more righteous anger into it. Very powerful! :)

I love Keith's version, too. :)

There are a lot of songs that get me all nostalgic, some entire albums have that effect on me - bring me back to a place and time... and it can be very vivid too.

But one song recently has really grown to mean a lot to me. This song being "When I look to the sky" by Train... Someone who means more to me now than anything else gave me this song and told me how she felt about me when she heard the lyrics. So now everytime I hear the song, I can't help but think of her.. as if it were a 'sign' that how we feel is right.
