for my part, I have a hard time understanding the version of scripture you post. just me.LLOJ said:Well, I can see my posts are being ignored so I will just enjoy the dialogue from others here. Peace.
don't bishops have to be celibate in EO though? ( I remember seeing that ONE level of the heiarchy had to be, anyways
I see. Thank you!unmarried or widowed (the demands of this office are immense - travel, spiritual father to many priests -- in short, the bishops "family" is big)
It would have to happen. It is one of the main factors that lead to schism in the first place.Uphill Battle said:I don't think they even CAN drop that now, can they? Kind of painted into a corner, so to speak?
The current Catholic mass.UB said:what is that?
Musical instruments. Only one's voice box is used and for a reason.UB said:musical instruments? or something else?
Bishops yes, priests no. Married men can be priests, provided they are married before ordination.UB said:don't bishops have to be celibate in EO though? ( I remember seeing that ONE level of the heiarchy had to be, anyways.
Unless somebody spoke "ex cathedra"!UB said:it's been defined as infallible truth. They CAN'T back away from that one, I don't think.
I"m sorry, LLoJ -- I have NO idea about the Zechariah passageWell, I can see my posts are being ignored so I will just enjoy the dialogue from others here. Peace.
Yeah.... I just don't know if they CAN drop it, regardless. They've proclaimed it as infallible truth, and all.It would have to happen. It is one of the main factors that lead to schism in the first place.
What is the distinct differences that would be cause for concern/problems?EC said:The current Catholic mass.
So, the EO position is that it's wrong to worship using musical instruments?EC said:Musical instruments. Only one's voice box is used and for a reason.
cool, thanks.EC said:Bishops yes, priests no. Married men can be priests, provided they are married before ordination.
another interesting hypothetical. Could an ex cathedra undo a previous ex cathedra.... hmmm.EC said:Unless somebody spoke "ex cathedra"!
yeah, but could they drop an "infallible" truth.EC said:Or they could just reexamine it.
Oh, you mean "close" in terms of how many years it's been since a split. Okay, I thought you meant close as in terms of alliance and doctrine. I was about to say, hold on there!East and West "officially" went their separate ways in 1054 AD, whereas John Calvin denied the papacy in the 1530's and Calvinism was born. You are much closer to Rome than the Orthodox.
Love,
Christina
but in some ways, doctrine too ... though these days there is such variation, its hard to tell. But, for example, there is not original sin in EO doctrine. (Its technically called ancestral sin, and is much closer to the Hebraic undersatnding of Adam's fall...)Oh, you mean "close" in terms of how many years it's been since a split. Sorry man, it’s not that - I have problems understanding your quotes with all this original Hebrew and Greek words and some numbers (at least I think these things in your quotes are original Hebrew and Greek words) and I don’t have a Bible at hand.Well, I can see my posts are being ignored so I will just enjoy the dialogue from others here. Well, apparently we have some doctrines in common with you all as well. EmperorConstantine named a few things that both Orthodox and Protestants reject such as the authority and infallibility of the pope, celibacy of the clergy, Immaculate Conception. I'm sure there are more.but in some ways, doctrine too ... though these days there is such variation, its hard to tell. But, for example, there is not original sin in EO doctrine. Cool. I'd love to hear what all y'all believe in to see on what issues we have common ground.Actually, I'm sure there are A LOT more
Let me just say this, if I weren't Protestant I would be Orthodox before I would be Catholic.
Well, yeah all Christians are catholic ultimately. Even us heretic Protestants! We are catholic... just not Roman Catholic.
Thanks. It is my favourite icon of Christ. Simple yet beautiful.I like your avatar by the way.
