I will never... under any circumstances, submit to The Church of Rome.

I will burn in hell first.

To share in her communion would be to share in the violence and trouble she has caused in her history. I will not be party to that.

Forgive me...
So, you would rather burn in hell than unity with another Christian Church?

Obviously, the Apostles, including St. Peter himself, did not see the primacy of Peter as him being over everyone else, since the first bishop of the Church was James.

All of the Apostles were given Apostlic Authority at the same time.....Jerusalem, just happened to be the first See, in which James was appointed the bishop.

According to the RC teaching, shouldn't Peter have been the first bishop of the Church, which (of course) is the Church of Jerusalem.

Nope, considering the fate of Jerusalem in the not to distant future, which Our Lord prophesied.....wouldn't have been too good an ideal. Besides, like I said before....there was no "First Bishop", they all were bishops.....just a first See.

Jesus gave Peter the set of keys, not a geographical location....so where Peter went so went his authority. His last See was in Rome, so that is where his authority was passed on to his successor.

If something should happen and the Vatican was uninhabitable for exetremly long period of time,(God forbid) where ever the Pope relocated.......would be the location of the Holy See and Petrine authority.

The Catholic Church is taking most of the initiative for reconciliation with the Orthodox with regard to disputed matters such as the filioque, yet is still routinely accused by some Orthodox of being the more intransigent and stubborn of the two parties. Anti-Catholicism among Orthodox (especially the more self-proclaimed traditional branches) unfortunately continues to flourish.
When the happy day comes in which Orthodox polemicists (particularly the non-ecumenical ones) cease attacking the Catholic Church by equating excess and corruption in practice with dogmatic and spiritual essense, then I will be utterly delighted and relieved .

Hi. Would the Pope be willling to step down to just being Bishop of Rome if it brought reconciliation.
I see no need of a Pope so I am with the Orthodox on that. Peace :groupray:

The Pope is "just" the Bishop of Rome. The title itself is not a point of contention, LLoJ. We Orthodox refer to our Alexandrian Patriarch as Pope, and he's not the Ecumenical Patriarch.

Ok. So who is the central authority in the Orthodox. Another words the Pope is head honcho over all Roman Catholics worldwide, and over the Cardinals, Bishops etc. What would be the closest the Orthodox have to a leader? Just curious

Christ God!

The Orthodox Church is counciliar. It does not have an earthly ruling head as you speak of.

Forgive me...

Do the theological differences currently distress you between the Eastern Churches?

While discussing which came first, the RCC or Bible on another thread, I remembered this thread concerning the Orthodox coming under the Pope/Papacy.

What I found interesting was the Orthodox almost said what M. Luther said about the Roman Church so would this imply both M.L and the Orthodox are anti-Catholic? Thoughts?

What would it take for Orthodoxs to come under Pope

quote: The Pope would renounce his Roman Catholicism and become Orthodox. There is nothing that would cause the Church as a whole to join with him.

Martin Luther identifies the Antichrist over 500 years ago!

The quote copied below is from one of Martin Luther's last books. It was titled: "A Prelude by Martin Luther on the Babylonian Captivity of the Church". The Web link for the complete text of the book is at the end of the article.

Page 536, chapter 3.

"Nevertheless, since few know this glory of baptism and the blessedness of Christian liberty, and cannot know them because of the tyranny of the pope, I for one will walk away from it all and redeem my conscience by bringing this charge against the pope and all his papists:

Unless they will abolish their laws and traditions, and restore to Christ's churches their liberty and have it taught among them, they are guilty of all the souls that perish under this miserable captivity, and the papacy is truly the kingdom of Babylon, yes, the kingdom of the real Antichrist!
