Man inherited Adams sinful nature when he fell in the garden of Eden, it all goes back to that so when you are born you are already destined to Hell, it is your inherited sinful nature that does that. Th eone and only way out is through Jesu Christ our Lord, and I tell you now that on another note we are not fighting religion against religion or even extremists of any religion but litte children of Satan himself. Thats what happened today in South Sudan? her over 30 children were lined up and shot in the head for not renouncing thier faith. Thats why I call them children of Satan killing other children , and I am one to tell you right now that Jesus loves all children whether they be Islamis or Christian. We are fighting the common enimy of man Satan pure and simple, its like Jesus said: we are not fighting flesh and blood but Principalities and powers.....Russ Campbell
Did God tell Adam that if he sinned God was going to roast him alive forever?

Part of the verse I posted says that the rich man died and was tormented in a flame. Are you saying that's not Hell?
Is Hiroshima the same thing as radiation? No, it's not. Neither is hades the same thing as hell.
Read the Primer on the Vocab of 'Hell'.

The Bible you read that says Hades. Did it leave out the part where the rich man died and lifted up his eyes being tormented in a fire/flame? If it didn't leave that part out then how are Hell and Hades different?

The Bible you read that says Hades. Did it also leave out the part where the rich man died and lifted up his eyes being tormented in a fire/flame? If it didn't leave that part out then how are Hell and Hades different?
Read the primer and it will explain all of that. It's very informative. Enjoy!

What about those who, in God's eyes and judgment, never had an open door to believe, so to speak...?

It is not just unbelief it is the rejection of Christ. Can't reject somebody you do not know about.
All sins can be forgiven except one and that is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. The question is what does that mean? If the role of the Holy Spirit is to work on men's hearts to draw them to God then it could be the continued rejection of that attempt to soften their heart. God wants people with Him that wants to be there with Him. How can he forgive somebody who does not believe they need to be forgiven? How can anybody?

I just went through Matthew and counted. Why Matthew? Because by far most of the references to Hell are there, and Mark and Luke's references are mostly a subset of those. I ignored statements about statements involving levels of reward, looking only at various statements about rejection. Here are the counts:

7 uselessness (no fruit, no taste, bad fruit
7 reject Jesus and message, no faith, etc
3 various kinds of mistreatment of others
2 failing to forgive
2 hyperbole (call someone fool, fail to amputate) *
2 refuse to repent
1 going through broad gate
1 seekign to save your life
1 speaking against Holy Spirit
1 being evil rather than righteous
1 hypocrites

Note that none of these are what many Christians call "sins." Nothing about sexual impurity, dancing, smoking, etc. It's about being useless, not responding to Jesus' message, not repenting and forgiving others.

The people who are saved don't realize they're doing anything special, but are following Jesus' teachings. (Mat 25:44, Luke 18:44, and negatively, Mat 7:22).

--------------

* What the Sermon on the Mount seems to be doing with its commentary on the 10 commandments is replacing a focus on specific violations of rules with a concern about attitudes or intentions that lead to harm of others, a theme that we can see elsewhere in Jesus' teaching.

You said "what" not "who." But I will start with the who. This may be a bit simplistic, but it is true:
  1. Only God has the authority and omnipotent power when it comes to the ultimate destiny of any of us.

  2. But He may have angels do the actual “tossing.” “Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:14-15). There are other scriptures that indicate that angels are actively involved in these things as God’s servants.

  3. And each of us has the choice to trust in God and His Christ, or not. That choice determines which ticket gets punched, heaven or hell.
  4. And as others have said, the "what" that causes this choice is sin. Original sin and personal sin that has not been repented. But since God's Redemption in Christ, the reason is now faithlessness. For even sinners are saved if they have faith in Jesus Christ.

Read the primer and it will explain all of that. It's very informative. Enjoy!

I read it. One part says "Sheol/Hades was seen as containing certain compartments, for rest, or punishment, or paradise."

Read it, and it didn't.

That depends on the reason for the disbelief.

1. Mental retardation
2. Defective upbringing resulting in brainwashing.
3. Overwhelming Genetic predispositions to stubbornness.
5. Chemical imbalance in the brain.
6. Depression leading to hopelessness.

Deontological or inflexible rule-based thinking isn't what God uses in determining the eternal destiny of such people.

Simple question: "What sends a person to hell...?"

Hi Neogaia777,

Let me illustrate this as to your question,

What sends a person to Prison...?

Sin is a very BIG word and has many roots underneath it. But NOT ALL sin will send you to Hell. Sin has a category of its own. It's different. It's like a stain (spot) hard or easy to remove.

But when you say the word Sin, not everyone can understand that. They all think of the one word, one thing and the same thing believing it will send you to Hell. But it's NOT. This confuses people ...like you Neogaia777.

But only one word can solve that.

Let me make this clear for you.

So, what sends a person to hell...?

It's simple,

IMPURITY - impure heart, impure thoughts, impure consciences, etc, you name it. Anything deliberately.

For example, if you're thinking to steal, kill, rape, immoral, etc, ...you name it, then you know what I mean here.

Prison and Hell are the same things. A place built and sending for a committed impure heart and thought.

But if you say Sin, believe me, people will don't know what kind of sin that will only or can send you to Hell even if they do know the word sin.

Hope that helps clear your seeking for understanding.

In Spirit.

The question you present seems to imply that we are at a neutral position until we perform some action or fail to perform some action? The way I witness is to liken it to one being inside of a burning building. If you stay put, you will certainly die. But God has provided for escape through only 1 door. Failure to take that escape route or choosing to find another route will result in certain death. We are condemned rightly, failure to become one with the God of Israel through Christ will result in spiritual death and eternal separation from God Himself. The building is burning around each of us- Failure to act will result in certain death. The Scripture is clear that ALL of mankind has the evidence of creation that testifies to the reality of God, so no soul is innocent.

Hades is simply the Greek word for "the place of the dead"--Sheol in Hebrew. Hebraic thought was that it was divided into two parts 1) the place of the righteous dead called "Abraham's bosom" or Paradise. 2) "the place of torment" a "holding tank" if you will, for the unrighteous dead. There was an unbridgeable gulf between the two. It is Hades that Jesus refers to in the account of the "Rich Man" and "the other Lazarus" in Luke 16:19-31. Jesus used two different words that are BOTH translated "hell" in our English translations. He also referred to "Gehenna" in the Aramaic and that was the "Lake of Fire" which is the place of eternal torment created for Satan and his angels (Matthew 25:41). It is also the site of the "Second Death" spoken of in Revelation.

There is no one in God's eyes that didn't have a chance. He shows no favoritism. "Men are without excuse." Romans 1:20.

Noah built the Ark and no-one was excluded from entering in. Yet all but his family were lost. Likewise Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty of sin but we need to accept the offer of forgiveness. Jesus died for the whole world but only the ones that want to receive the offer of Salvation are saved. What about the rest? They are eternally lost. God did His part, we need to do our part, receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

So what do you disagree with in what I said? That God commands everyone to repent?
No, of course not. I read your comment to say that God previously winked at sin. If you didn't mean it that way then I apologize.

Jesus atoned for all sin then, now and for all time. He took our sin and made it his own. The core of our (Protestant) faith is John 3:16. This tells us that all we have to do is accept him into our heart to become a new creation. This cannot be undone as God doesn't make mistakes!

Neogaia777 - if you have done this, sincerely, you will be saved. Your spririt will be with Christ for ever. Praise God.

Failure to allow the sacrifice of Jesus to be the atonement that the Father provided. We are all living in a fallen state and we sin every day. 1Tim.2:5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; only Jesus can absolve your sin. Without Jesus mankind is doomed to hell. John14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
