Hello Jeff. Many of the saints seem to be confused as to what constitutes a "work". So I will ask this rhetorical question. What must we do to receive forgiveness, and if there is something we must do, is it work?
Where you won't goIsaiah 1:18 New International Version (NIV)
“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.
Where?
Come here.
Where?
Come here now.
Where?

I challange any kettlw calling any pot blackI was commenting on the OP and why the NT says some works are deprecated,
And my post references scripture, showing our Lord demands certain works of us showing reformation theology is false,
As for idolatary, I don't, and I don't know anyone who does, so difficult to know why you raise that.
So perhaps you would like to challenge what I said instead?
Does HIS SACRIFICE cover those who do not believe?

Jeff, "what must we do to receive forgiveness"? Hmmm, We can go straight to Jesus Christ to ask for forgiveness, but how does one know if Jesus Christ has forgiven US of our sins or Retained them?
Jeff, when did you last ask Jesus Christ for forgiveness? And did you hear HIM say your sins are forgiven or retained? You don't know, YOU HOPE Christ has forgiven you, Remember not all who say Lord Lord will be saved, why perhaps their sins were retained, they did not do the fathers will.
Jesus Christ, left His Church founded on Rock that many can come and literally hear with their ears wether their sins were forgiven or retained. Have you not read: John 20:21 below:
John 20: 21He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. 22When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. 23Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.
Jeff, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send You"... Jeff, TO DO WHAT??? Jesus Christ Breathed on His Apostles the Holy Spirit... Jefff, TO DO WHAT, AGAIN? To do what the Father sent Jesus Christ to do, AND that is Forgive or Retain Sins, the Catholic Church has this power through the Successors of the Apostles.
Protestants believe they can go straight to Jesus Christ for forgiveness, We Catholics do this as well, however, we know a Truth found in John 20 21-23 that the protestants don't AND THAT IS Jesus Christ left His Church manage the Sheep untoo Salvation. Amen
Will those who don't believe be forgiven of their sins?Did Jesus die for you before you believed? Or did He only die for you after you believed?
Our Lord Jesus Christ died for the sins of the whole world. He died for everyone.
The only other option is Limited Atonement.

My favorite reply is Ephesians 2:8-9, For by Grace are ye saved, through faith, and THAT NOT OF YOURSELVES, it is the gift of God (emphasis mine). So is "faith" a work we must perform in order to be saved and receive forgiveness of sins? No, faith is a pre-existing condition, given to us by the Holy Spirit, and is the indicator that we are indeed saved. We do nothing to achieve it.Many of the saints seem to be confused as to what constitutes a "work". So I will ask this rhetorical question. What must we do to receive forgiveness, and if there is something we must do, is it work?
Will those who don't believe be forgiven of their sins?
Do men have to make a confession of faith
Romans 10 tells us that though we are not to judge who will ascend or who will descend, we do preach faith in CHRIST to all men which means men must hear and believe and confess JESUS with their mouth and in their heart
Some don't believe
And though HE died for the sins of men, some will die in their sins because they do not believe who HE says HE is
Will GOD justify those whose faith is not in HIS SON?Everyone is forgiven already on account of the death of Christ who suffered and died on behalf of all.
"While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and I am the chief of sinners." (1 Timothy 1:15)
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever should trust in Him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
The Scripture say,
"because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'" (Romans 10:9-13)
It is through faith that the Holy Spirit appropriates the work of Christ, as the Apostle says in the same chapter, "So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ." (Romans 10:17)
That by the preaching of the Gospel comes faith, and through faith God graciously justifies, imputing the righteousness of Christ freely, as a gift; this faith is God's gift and "not of ourselves" (Ephesians 2:8-9)
And that has nothing to do with the fact that Christ's work is insufficient or ineffectual; but everything to do with human volition being sinful, broken, and in opposition to God; as the Apostle, quoting the Psalmist writes, "There is none who seek God, no not one" (Romans 3:11) and the Prophet Jeremiah who has written, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick, who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9); it is therefore not up to man to do what is right in the sight of God in order to earn God's favor, it is instead God who has accomplished our salvation for us already, by sending His Son, our Lord Jesus, who suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, buried, and dead, and who rose on the third day. He has thereby won for us salvation, forgiveness, eternal life, and victory over sin, death, hell, and the devil. He has accomplished this, for our good, in accordance with God's will, love, and kindness.
So yes, Christ died for the unbelieving, Christ died for all sinners, and by His death there is forgiveness of sin--of all sins, everyone's sins, without condition. Christ alone has done this, God has done it all. Glory to God alone.

It's clearly there and I believe in a prior post here on this thread I pointed it out. You can review it and offer your ....comments?However it is that you interpret them would be your opinion, yes. But you haven't provided your understanding of those chapters that I can see, and thus can't comment one way or another.

except it does not only say that does it.Hello Jeff.
The weight of scripture simply tells us. to believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
That is the most important doctrine in the scripture and is called the Gospel.
It is never what we can do to earn salvation, it is granted to us by God Himself.
Believing in Jesus is not a work of the law.
Well thats just flat out wrong on so .any levels.Jeff, "what must we do to receive forgiveness"? Hmmm, We can go straight to Jesus Christ to ask for forgiveness, but how does one know if Jesus Christ has forgiven US of our sins or Retained them?
