Hello, it's occurred to me that I don't know the difference between sheol, hades and hell.
You might add the lake of fire and the pit. Have you ever committed a sin and then gotten entangled in the most unpleasant consequences of that sin? That would be the lake of fire, I believe. I think the pit is the same thing, and maybe the three you mentioned.Hello, it's occurred to me that I don't know the difference between sheol, hades and hell.
Sheol and Hades are different names for the same thing. Before Jesus, all disembodied souls inhabited a realm that can be said to be defined by the souls themselves. It's more a state of being than a place. Souls that were formed by wicked lives share a likeness and dwell together . in the same manner we have souls of faith who were in the bosom of Abraham. They share a likeness in faith.Hello, it's occurred to me that I don't know the difference between sheol, hades and hell.
Sheol and Hades are different names for the same thing. Before Jesus, all disembodied souls inhabited a realm that can be said to be defined by the souls. Souls that were formed by wicked lives were together . So we have souls of faith who were in the bosom of Abraham. They share a likeness in faith. This is the abode of the dead called Hades Sheol and Hell. But when Jesus' soul became disembodied His entered the same place and defined it in a big way. He was revealed toall souls who had gone before Him. He brought eternal judgement to all disembodied souls. Those who lived righteous lives were taken out of there and went with Him to Heaven. Those left behind are in the hell as it is understood now. As a place for the damned. No soul there is resting in the peace possible before Christ entered and brought eternal judgement. Sheol and Hades no longer exist because souls there had not yet received judgement. Sheol and Hades turned into hell when only the damned were left there after Christ. Heaven for the saved and hell for the damned exist after Jesus' soul brought judgement. Hope this helped.
Hiya dreadnought, The lake of fire is formed after Jesus returns in Glory. It is reserved for souls that cooperated most intimately with Satan in his plan to be the cause of damnation to as many as possible. It forms at the end of time and history. It is hell to the extreme and happens after sin has reached it's most evil expression and those who acted it out have been conquered. You might add the lake of fire and the pit. If they would have excepted Christ as Saviour during there earthly life had they had that opportunity, their soul then would be in a state that would accept Him and join His ascent to the FatherThank you so much. That was a big help !
You mentioned the righteous people in Hades/Sheol were taken up with Jesus to heaven. How does that work if they didn't know the Gospel and as the bible tells us ''As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one - Romans 3:10''. Please anyone else reading this feel free to respond.
Thanks again

I think some of what you read in Revelation, in figurative speech, describes what we will encounter in our own lives here on earth.Hiya dreadnought, The lake of fire is formed after Jesus returns in Glory. I agree, Revelation gives an account of the hidden forces driving human history. As, I think you are meaning, a little foretaste perhaps. Here, if we do, it's end is to keep us from being apart from God I think.I think some of what you read in Revelation, in figurative speech, describes what we will encounter in our own lives here on earth.
Hello Complete in Thee. Good dialogue, sincere exchange of ideas, good for all. I guess the word righteousness can be applied to a soul of the departed before Jesus. To Abraham and maybe those in his bosomThank you so much. That was a big help !

But I don't just mean a foretaste. I think some of the things in Revelation actually describe, in figurative language, what happens in this life.I agree, Revelation gives an account of the hidden forces driving human history.
