Again sister, your well balanced world views come into light. The republican mantra of tax cuts isn't going to put more $$ in the coffers either. Its real simple...every housewife knows it. Either more comes in, less goes out or some combination of both.
I don't buy the whole 47% quote, because if you think about it, the people who may not be paying income taxes are still paying other taxes. FICA is not optional nor refundable, sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes...all get paid whether or not you pay income taxes. Therefore the statement was misleading.
Bottom line...taxes have to go UP. Quit giving "tax breaks" to the corporations that just offshore jobs. The jobs that are being "created" these days are mostly low paying service jobs. The days of the good paying manufacturing jobs are just about over.
It's so sad that folks like you with common sense can't possibly raise the money to take office. That is, I think b/c you'd likely bite the hand that fed ya.
Anyhow, thanks for portraying the truth.
We ALL pay taxes. Especially the poor folks who can't afford healthy diets. We have bad colons and we use faaaaaaaaarrrrrr more toilet paper than the rich. And toilet paper tax is NON negotiable. We can't write off fuel, b/c we work for someone else. Rich folks don't pay for their fuel, the govt does.
One quick example in my own life.
A friend worked for a small trucking company. The owner paid a little over 155K in fuel costs last yr. And he bought a new rig. And he paid his 2 drivers 91K. He paid maintenance and insurance costs of over 26K. In total, the 2 driver outfit paid out a little more than 417K in costs, and brought in a little better than 535K for a net profit of 118K. And tbf, the owner drove a bunch of those miles himself since he gave his drivers 10 days off for every 6 weeks on the road.
However, here's where it gets fishy. He paid 0 federal income tax. 0. He received a subsidy check of 11K. How is that possible.
Well, he's incorporated. He pays himself a salary out of the 118K profit. He pays federal income taxes on his salary. Then he uses the rest of the profit, reinvesting in his business. IE, a boat to take prospective clients out. A new Hummer for the same. A new tractor rig and some new furniture , for the office, yeah right. I don't know how his accountant made it happen, but the guy literally broke it down for me while I was installing his floors. And it was ALL legal.
After govt subsidies for fuel, new equipment, new hire, and everything else, the guy gets a check for almost 2X what he paid out in his own federal income tax and FICA tax. Incredible.
