I believe they should be removed simply because the government only believes in three commandments. Those are prohibition on stealing, killing and lying. There is nothing in the state "law" that tells us the importance of Remembering the Sabbath Day and keeping it holy to the Lord our God, coveting, making graven images, taking God's name in vain nor having other god's before him.

What does everyone think....:)

the bible says that God would write his law, not on tablets of stone but on our hearts... so for every believer who occupies a public building the law is there... in their hearts....besides having monuments of the 10 commandments seems to be idolatrous to me.....
Execellent i couldn't agree more.... It's crazy though how the people that are opposed to the removal of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse setting are in a sense betraying the context of (Exodus 20:2-17).. It starts with Thou shalt have no other gods before me....This represents the covenant
God established with his people or rather renewed... How could you replace Moses and all of God's people with "Political stuff" it just makes me wonder why do some christians want the Ten Commandments to remain in the court...

I don't think there is anything wrong with the removal of the commandments, but, the United States of America was founded upon religious freedoms and God, hence our money says "In God We Trust." They are trying to remove not all the 10 commandmants, but religion completely our the government, which is not what our founding fathers wanted. This is only one step closer. Soon enough, the "In God We Trust" will be removed from our currency as well, just as all other religious related material will be.

Our founding father did not want this country to be a "christian" nation, they wanted this country to be a country of religious freedom, a country where all religions can live together in peace.
Anyway, I totally agree with the removal of the 10 commandments from the courthouse. Having them there kinda says that that court bases its decisions on the bible, and how would you feel if you were a buddhist or a muslim or a shintoist?

Because I am a believe of "when in Rome, do as the Romans do", if I couldn't handle seeing Christian symbols, I'd go home. As facetious as that may sound, it's how I feel.

I'm supposed to care about the feelings of buddhists, muslims, and all of the other "faiths" out there, but it would appear now that Christians are just supposed to swallow their feelings, and say, "oh hey, we don't want to upset anyone else, so go ahead and take God out of everything here, that's perfectly ok, we don't want to step on anyone else's toes."

I'd be more comfortable in saying, "ok, if we can have a Christian symbol remain here, we'll add a buddha and a muslim symbol as well, or any of the others".

It just appears that it's ok to hurt the feelings of a Christian, or make them uncomfortable, but it's not ok to make the others uncomfortable.

Hello!
You know, before i became a member here at christian forums, for a long while I read the threads and discussions here. I was a "lurker". You always struck me as being a pretty solid christian and a nice person. :)

The thing is that having the 10 commandments in the courthouse kind of sends a message that the decisions and laws made in the court are made based on the bible. If we put a buddha it will implie that decisions are made based on buddhist principles. Since in reality US laws are not based on any one religion, in my opinion it wouldn't be right to imply it.
I don't think it is ok to hurt the feelings of anyone rgardless of their religion, and since the majority of people here in the US are christian, I just think that we should be very careful of forcing christianity upon others.

Dan
