This wasn't the best weekend, but I'm trying to be more grateful even during my misfortunes. Other humans have been through a lot worse.

Just back from a holiday catching up with all the family we haven't seen because of Covid. Feeling refreshed and renewed (and also tired and glad to be home).

Bought a cheap 250$ Motorola phone.

Was planning to get the latest iPhone but I'd rather wait for the new Galaxy S22 to come out. I just need some kind of phone in the meantime, and this unlocked phone is cool. Who knows I just might use this one for now on? I do like to get the latest and greatest. It's been seven years since I've gotten a phone, so it's not like I splurge on new phones all the time.

Compared to my S6, it seems to be a little faster. The screen is much bigger, but the resolution is a little lower. This new phone also has 128GB of storage compared to 32GB of storage on my own phone. Which is quite the jump... and something I desperately needed. I love downloading podcasts and whatnot, and it can eat up space really quickly. In fact, I think my phone died because the storage was dangerously low *as my phone warned me repeatedly lol. *

I will say the battery on my S6 was really good. The charge was still decent even after depleting it almost daily for several years. My S2 battery died in about the first year. Although that one was replaceable at least.

Got a new phone service called "Mint" 15 dollars a month for 4GB (more than enough for my usage.) Unlimited minutes too. They use the T-Mobile towers but are not part of the company. The speeds for me are really fast, and best of all is that it's prepaid. There is a small service fee, but overall, you get what you pay for. Unlimited minutes and texts too.

This is a lot better than the 100 dollars a month I've been paying with Sprint this last decade. I really, really hate that company... although I guess they are T-Mobile. Somewhat ironic. Still using their cell towers, but with a more humane and fair priced company.

The Boondocks. It's uh... interesting show. More intelligent than I thought it would be, although I've only seen a few episodes. Kind of mocks both white and black culture. It's not like the nowadays stuff where white people are always wrong and racist.

I do remember the comic strips as a kid.

I like the anime style fight scenes and it has some funny moments. My favorite episode is the one that parodies the real kid that stole his grandma's car.

It's funny you should say that; I was just yesterday talking to a colleague who was lamenting how it seems to him, our work is more and more becoming having to make bricks without straw!

Get on the "Hot line" to the heavens and tell them you need more workers.

Or,
tell the Pharaoh he can make his own bricks.

I like the one that goes after the channel 'BET'.

I do find media created from black people interesting. Like Spike Lee, Chris Rock and what not. Just studying their perspectives. Even the racist creators. Not saying that the creator of the Boondocks is racist. I'm still feeling out what his views are all about. I am all for freedom of speech. I know black people are mocked in the media all the time even if it's just in "jest" from more liberal creators. So, you know, it's fair game for white people to be mocked too.

I remember once looking up racism against whites on Japanese television. I did not find much, but there were a few clips where Japanese people liked to put on a big honky nose. There was also one where a Japanese woman visited America and remarked how everyone looked like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Which doesn't seem like it would be an insult? I do remember reading when the Dutch first made contact with the Japanese, that the Japanese found the Dutch to be very ugly looking. Which is food for thought. Given that east Asians are much more neotenous than Europeans, in comparison we do probably look a lot more "archaic". The more rigid appearances were probably more striking considering they never saw a European and probably never a non-asian face before in their lives.

Came to think this evening that I have not had my haircut for over two years.

Though I have hacked at it but I would never make a good barber.

Or a cook either, though I did do some tasty salmon this evening.

Surprised myself.

I don't really like salmon, but I have a recipe for a blackberry glazed salmon which is edible even for me.

Well, not all salmon tastes alike, there is a difference between wild and farmed.

But I put plenty of lemon sauce all over it before
putting it in the oven.
