I live in CA, kids recite the pledge of allegiance. The kids that don't want to. Stand or sit there , until it ends. That's their right.

That's why the support for "MAGA", in the hope to force those kids to join in against their will.

They have an image of school kids, hand on heart, reciting the pledge of allegiance as a bulwark against creeping "Socialism" out to destroy American values.

But then fail to realise the pledge of allegiance was written by a self-identifying, hard line Socialist, who raged against and despised Capitalism and the unfair and hypocritical "polite" society.
Irony is a foreign land to the ignorant.

I know. But it's wrong and people need to grow up and realize that.

I've see a few statements on threads about MAGA and people challenging the phrase.

I would like to hear what MAGA means to you. Not what you think MAGA means to others. But what does MAGA mean to you personally.

I don't want this thread to turn into an argument, or a debate, but a view. This way we can see what MAGA really means to each other. It may or may not be enlightening, but I guess we will see. So please post what MAGA means to you personally. Please don't challenge other people's posts. Ready, set, go!

Under Trump a final burnout of the US, an initial boom followed by a steady descent into ever worsening internal strife and scapegoating, people pursuing half baked and incoherent notions of American greatness in the absence of any leadership, ultimately clearing the way for increased international influence for China, Russia and in the longer term Saudi Arabia, in turn leading to a more brutal and less secure world. Under Trump, America will eat itself.

Ever political entity have the right to say Make America Great Again.
Not really, given that some don't think that having a Black guy in the White House was correlated with America being less great.

And I'll agree with you on that one thing. Nobody should consider an Administration is Greater or Less because of a persons skin color whether they be white or black.

Currently, MAGA is a slogan representing unabashed, unwavering support for the agenda of Donald J. Trump.

Do you agree that poor people should not be able to find affordable housing in suburbs?
If you can’t afford to live there, you have no right to live there.
Do you believe that black people should not be able to find affordable housing in suburbs?
Why do black people have to be in the affordable housing? Not all black people are poor!
Do you feel that they make things more dangerous--solely because of their income or race?
No
That's the fear Trump's pushing. I have had rich friends and poor friends and people of all races and ethnicities in my life. People are people--and they should not be banned from housing because of who they are.
What did Trump say that gave you the impression he was pushing this fear?
Do you believe immigrants are scary? Do you believe that if desperate parents take a long, arduous dangerous trip to try to give their children a better life, or to help them survive, period, that it is the parents' fault when their children are put into cages and isolated from them?
Yes.
" Do you believe Kyle Rittenhouse was helping the police when he came, univited, with dangerous alt-right militias, only to kill two and wound one protester?
Rittenhouse was invited to help protect a business from rioters. The rioters were the dangerous ones, and he only killed after being attacked.
Do you believe that Kentucky police should have fired 32 shots in Breonna Taylor's home, killing her as they slept?
They weren’t asleep, the cops were being shot at and they returned fire accidentally killing Breonna Taylor
Do you believe (the only truth here, so far) that 93% of BLM protesters are peaceful? They are!
Only 93%??? Why can't it be 100%? The problem is the 97% refuse to speak out against the 7% that are doing all the damage! You know how they like to chant "your silence is violence"? They need to apply that to themselves as well.

Most of the fears Trump tries to elicit are irrational.

I was born in NYC. I lived there as a young adult. I live in another state now but visit frequently. I took the subway to work.

If anything, Trump escalates the protests by sending in the National Guard or even worse, encouraging Proud Boys and other alt-right radicals to fight them.

I live in Proud Boy country and I think they are a whole lot scarier than black people.

What scares me?

Four more years of Trump spewing hatred and fear mongering to his followers scares me.

People in my town rushing to buy guns when they already own more guns than I hope they will ever use.

I see it this way. Trump scares his followers. They buy more guns. The more guns they own, the more likely they are to hurt people with them--and they are more likely to hurt their own families or close friends than strangers.

I do fear that if Trump loses he will try to unleash these gun hoarders out into the streets to revolt. I am considering getting a Simpli Safe alarm system. I have many black and immigrant friends in the small city where I live, but people whipped into a lather by Trump's demagoguery are another thing entirely.

I believe it refers back to a time when a combination of American exceptionalism, A slower pace of life, an insular American public, and a post WWII economic boost allowed people to feel that they were safe and they understood the world around them. I would have to say it refers to a feeling more then any particular time frame. We felt we were the good guys and we reveled in our ability to enjoy life with our family and friends.

It was a good feeling. It was a good time. It was a historical outlier and something we will never get back to I'm afraid.

Perhaps we can get back to those times; except without the racism and intolerance.
Wont happen even we if all somehow make peace socially. Environmental degradation leading to catastrophe will ruin any chance for contented optimism.

The magnitude of change we'll have to adapt to will overwhelm our capacities... materially, politically, pychologically.
