Oh, please, the only reason miss ex-bartender got voted in was cause her opponent didn't campaign and only the hardcore voted. She won the primary by like 9,000 votes. Not some overwhelmingly number. LOL

Yes, she cost the state of NY and the city $24.5 billion in tax revenue over 10 years. They projected $27.5 in total revenue minus the $3 billion in tax breaks. Amazon was to have a 40,000 head count in 10 years at HQ2 paying an average $150,000 a year in 2018 dollars, which would've created another 100,000 jobs to support it and 1,300 jobs to build it. Her and others, like I said in the OP, cost NY big time. Who did we see taking victory laps, however? Ocasio. NY leaders are now begging Bezos to reconsider.

Her Green Deal is a non-starter. Everybody, in 12 years, will have to be driving electric cars. Ridiculous. That's a fantasy. They pegged the cost to the Feds at $53 to 93 trillion, which means it ain't gonna happen in a snowflake's chance in hell.

Conservatives are scared of AOC? Gimme a break. They are scared of the Dems embracing socialism, which simply hasn't worked anywhere. With socialism comes fascism. In fact, I'd be willing to bet AOC will be out on her butt in 2 years after the Amazon fiasco. She, and others, went against the Dem party elite on that deal and there is going to be a war over all that missed cash, let me tell you. AOC will probably be a casualty of the coming war in NY politics.

As I look at the Dems running for President, they sure are embracing free college and free healthcare. But, none have offered a way to pay for it. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker are even promising Blacks reparations for slavery to win the Black vote.

I actually think as Americans see what they voted for in the House, it'll swing back to the GOP in 2020 with Trump getting another 4 years. Biden is the only one with serious name recognition to make a run. The rest are serious jokes.

Nope, quite a few studies show that conservatives tend to de motivated by fear and liberals are open to new experiences.
Ah, "new experiences." Well now, since the claim has been to be modified in order to keep it alive, that should continue. In time the claim will be that conservatives are just less interesting than liberals--in the opinion of liberals. LOL

There's a lot to see of value in her. She's smart, hardworking, ambitious. Basically the extra opposite of Trump.

It's mainly older MAGA conservatives who are so obsessive with the gal. It's been hilarious watching her burns that are so on point.

What do Democrats see in Ocasio-Cortez?

Given that there are 29 congressional representatives from New York City, how could just one 29 year old neophyte force Amazon to change their plans?

The !4th Congressional District is located in parts of the Bronx and Queens, not Long Island!

Income per capita $22,745
Income per household $48,431
Income below poverty line 18.8%

What do Democrats see in Ocasio-Cortez?

Reasons for opposition to Amazon plans
***************************************************
- residents outraged that one of the world’s richest corporations was receiving a combined total of $3 billion in subsidies from city and state funds

- negotiations were conducted behind closed doors, with limited public input, and no involvement of local city leaders
`
- no guarantee that the proposed 25,000 jobs would be filled by New Yorkers or those living in the district

- Amazon required government officials to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) during its year-long selection process which heightened suspicions as to what was really being negotiated by their elected representatives

- Amazon stated that it would oppose any attempt to create unions amongst its workers in New York City

- Google recently expanded in NYC, but unlike Amazon, it didn't ask for or receive public money or tax breaks

- 2 Seattle lawmakers travelled to New York to share war stories from their battles with Amazon - drove up real estate prices, negatively impacted lower-income residents, increased local taxes to pay for infrastructure (roads, subways, sewers)

-government negotiators circumvented community review and local input by using a state-level process that bypasses the authority of the City Council in zoning and land-use decisions

The conservative media spends far more time on AOC than the liberal media.

Probably because she says and does more for us to talk about.

Well you could just use Google. Lol. I'll occasionally see an article from Yahoo on Twitter or SC. By far the most obsession I've ever seen about her is from right here, from older Republicans. Nobody does a better job giving her publicity than Republicans over 40, lol.

Exactly- which is why the right wing is far more obsessed with her than the left.

It depends on what your definition of "obsessed" is. If someone is doing and saying things that create attention, then they will get attention. Take a look at what you said earlier:

Conservatives, on the other hand, can’t seem to stop talking about her. Every time she says anything it gets plastered all over conservative media - no wonder you all think Dems idolize her - that seems to be the story line the conservative outlets are peddling.

Now, substitute OAC for Trump, and substitute the liberal media for the conservative media. See the pattern?

On the other hand, Trump is our head of state and government, while she has exactly one vote in one chamber of Congress...

The topic of this thread is liberal obsession with AOC. My point is that liberals aren’t obsessed with her - conservatives are. You helped make my point.

As for Trump - it is true that liberal media is obsessed with talking about him. However, he is president whereas AOC is a first term member of Congress. There is a difference.

First-term or in their tenth term, does it make a difference? It's about what they do while there, not how long they've been there.

The position of the person making statements - POTUS vs Member of Congress - does matter.

A first-term rep has had less opportunity to do anything.

Does that include when they make up bills such as the New Green Deal that ends up being endorsed by every democrat running for president? This indicates that those who want to be president are in agreement with her, even when she proposes stuff like this. Shouldn't we be concerned?

Social science isn’t “opinions.” I’m not sure what you mean by modifying a claim to keep it alive. Have you read the studies, or are you just making fun of something you don’t really know much about?

What do Democrats see in Ocasio-Cortez?

Democratic politicians like AOC actually reflect the demographics of the citizens they represent - women, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, younger!

By 2050, the majority of Americans will no longer be considered "white," but an assortment of visible minorities.

You would never know that this exists based on the lack of "ethnic" diversity amongst their Republican counterparts who are almost exclusively "white," wealthy, middle aged males - who assume they are "entitled" to govern the nation as they see fit, without interference from the likes of AOC!
