Toy Story 2 is amazing, maybe my favorite Pixar movie. 3 & 4 are mediocre at best. I'm amazed 3 is often considered the best. I always thought it was just a repeat of 2.

These days Pixar just churns out mediocre sequels. I haven't seen a lot of their newer original ones, tho. Inside Out was the last original one I saw but I did really like it. Coco & Soul are on my To Watch List. It sounds like their really good. Have heard Luca gets woke. Plus I'll probably be invited to Lightyear in a couple months (even tho I'd rather pass on it)

Interesting. Toy Story 2 I like more than 3 and 4. But you like it more than the original movie?

I loved the first Toy Story; the writing was darker and the toys were more condescending towards each other. Everyone was just kind of mean and selfish towards one another. Starting with Toy Story 2 the tone really changed and the toys become more loving with one another which turned me off, lol.

I know the original Toy Story script was even meaner, but they were told to tone it down and revise it. Pixar used to have edge.... but psychological neoteny tends to plague studios over time. Meaning more cute, faster pace tones behind it. You noticed older films tend to have a slower more thoughtful pace behind them.. but gradually become more ADHD and less willing to take risks.

Lol I'd pass on Lightyear. That looks horrible.

The sad thing is that Pixar originally had a philosophy of not doing sequels.. that sure didn't last long... lol.

Yes to everything.

Movies are way too fast-paced these days. They don't let the audience breathe & appreciate what's going on at all.

Not sure about Pixar originally having more of an edge, but yeah, jealousy, selfishness, etc. or other negative traits aren't really motivating factors or big pieces of characters' makeup like it is for the toys in Toy Story 1. Looking at the list of their movies, their other characters are all motivated by 'the right thing to do' & they don't really have character flaws. That's interesting. That's probably one reason the first one was so successful.

Been thinking about the new Top Gun movie & how everyone is really liking it. I know this movie was delayed a few years ago. I wonder if that helped the quality. These days studios just rush movies to get them out as quick as they can. I think studios need to take a breather & delay a movie till they really believe it's as good as they can get it. I know $$$ is everything, but I feel like studios could just release B-type movies in the meantime till they get their A-type movies out. Now it just seems like they're pushing to get what could be A movies out as quick as they can & the quality's taking a hit so it just feels like a B movie in quality.

One of the Nintendo creators said once: "A delayed game is eventually good. A rushed game is bad forever."

Yeah. Psychological neoteny is an interesting phenomenon in films and tv. You notice it when you compare older versions of cartoon characters to their recent versions. The voices tend to raise in pitch and the speed they talk increases, the drawings become less jaggy and more rounded. A lot of this is just motivated by consciously or subconsciously wanting to make the characters more marketable.

I don't mind some of it, but when it infects almost all aspects of entertainment over time it can be too much. One reason I prefer movies and film that are at least a few decades old. I really love the aesthetic of 1980s and 1970s films. No one reason why modern films cannot be the same.. although some are.

Lol sadly a lot of modern gaming companies have adopted.. a rushed game meets our quarterly earnings.. we can update it later (or not) and fix up the glitches later.

I don't mind when a movie has a similar plot if it is well made a lot of movies copied plots from other movies one known to be copies is the 7 samurai movie.

I have yet to see Toy Story 4, but have 1-3 on Blu-Ray. Coco was good but I didn't like it as much as others did and have not seen Soul either or Luca. I don't hold out much hope for pixar stories....... I am not into wokeness.

Superman & Batman: Public Enemies

Superman & Lex Luthor’s voices seem off from The Animated Series which I thought were perfect, so disappointed at that. Kevin Conroy as Batman was good as always.

This movie is the famous ‘Lex becomes US president’ story.

I liked seeing Lex’s battle suit, which was disappointingly absent from The Animated Series.

Batman & Superman have a good dynamic. They have a good scene in the sewers.

Always good seeing Power Girl. She gets a big supporting role in this. Plus Shazam! Yay!

I didn’t recognize a lot of the characters sent after them.

I didn’t like the ‘meteor going to destroy the earth’ thing. That’s been done 1000 times & it's a big chunk of the movie. I would've liked to see more pressure for Batman & Superman to join Lex's heroes in the beginning.

I recommend this if you’re a fan of Superman & Batman, either the comics or the cartoons. If you’re not, you probably won’t care for this b/c the movie expects you to know the comics & cartoons well.

I liked the S/B Public Enemies movie a lot, rating it 8.1 almost 1 point higher than IMDB ratings. I've collected a lot of Superman and Batman animated series almost everything I've found from second hand local sources sometimes completing series/collections by buying on Ebay. The 1996-98 Superman the Animated Series (3 volumes) IMO is excellent rating mid to high 8s on my scale featuring Timothy Daly as Superman in it. In the Batman series that I have is Batman Beyond (3 volumes) rating mid 7s to mid 8s with Will Friedle playing the younger Batman and Kevin Conroy the "retired" old batman. It is a futuristic take and worth watching if you are into animated and batman characters. Batman the Animated Series you are likely already into (4 volumes) With Kevin Conroy I rate it mid to high 8s with IMDB rating it a 9.0. I have Batman the Brave and the Bold series which took me a long time to get it on the cheap that is decent and is 3 seasons (5 Volumes) I rate it mid 6s to high 7s with it peaking early in season 2. decent showing as anything on my scale rated 7 or above is a good watch for me and having a series that you can get immersed in and binge watch is often a good way to distract yourself from thinking about...... stuff.
The Batman series (5 volumes) is good also, rating from 7.4 to 8.2 for me starting off kind of slow but then solid after the first season with Rino Romano as Batman in it.

I have about 40 titles in Batman both movies and animated movies and series with all the Batman movies (non animated) except the last one (The Batman) which I'm on the lookout for. contrast that with 16 Superman titles Total, Batman is a lot more popular for sure.

I'm not sure about the latest animated stuff (Batman or Superman) being put out. I may just see what I stumble across and read reviews to see if they are rated well or not as anything rated 5 or below on IMDB I pretty much have to be a fan of the series to bother with collecting as for the most part IMDB ratings are within 1.5 points of mine or less depending on the genre. Often my ratings are less than 0.5 points off theirs as I take into account rewatchability in the equation not just initial "wow" factor when I do keep a movie in my collection.

Both the "animated series" of Batman and Superman are not cheap to acquire and rarely found at a bargain price locally you could find yourself spending over $100 for the Batman series or $20 each which if you consider what you get compared to a ~90 minute movie is a bargain for entertainment hours you get. I find the older animated series pretty much ignored hollywood influence and rarely delved deep into politics either considerably more neutral than today such that regardless of your ideology/religion/etc you would likely enjoy it.

My friend loves superheroes. He likes to share his love of them w/ me.

So far I've watched all of:
Batman Beyond
Batman the Animated Series
Mask of the Phantasm
The Killing Joke
Superman the Animated Series
Subzero

Now Public Enemies. I have a bunch of the cartoon DC movies in my drawer he's either given me or asked me to watch while at the mall. I will be watching them between other things.

I was surprised how good Batman Beyond & the Superman shows are. The Superman show especially is underrated.

I don't think I've seen Subzero if that is a newer movie and not an episode of a series. There hasn't been a lot of good animated stuff showing up second hand here for decent prices and buying online costs a lot more and having to risk getting lower quality than advertised.

I have a movie collection database program that I can enter nearly everything in it. I can rate movies at 0.1 increments using a custom skin I found at the time and custom fields I have an entry for how many times I watched the movie... last time I watched it etc. IMO if you have less than a few hundred movies you could probably just make a text file for it but when you start heading towards 1000 movies it gets too hard to keep track of things including where a movie is unless you have a bunch of shelf space.
