I finished The Road to El Dorado

The animation is GORGEOUS & incredible. Mix of traditional animation & 3d effects is my favorite. Shame they don't really do that anymore & it's all computer now.
I liked the leads (Miguel & Tulio). But I think the concept has been done too many times. It reminded me of another DreamWorks movie Madagascar a lot.
Overall it's good, but lacks.......something.

This is several days old now, but still pertinent. Facebook, Instagram, and similar sites have always struck me as creepy and potentially harmful, which is why I don't use them. This doesn't surprise me.

I'm not opposed to all forms of social media, but some are more problematic than others.

Back in the late 60's and early 70's friday nights and the horror movie host on the local horror movie night. Fridays in my area staring at 10:30 right after the late night news, that was one anticipated time after a week spent suffering in school.

Planet of Dinosaurs (1978)

The stop-motion dinosaurs are very, very good. In fact if you’ve seen dinosaur documentaries, a lot of footage for those comes from this movie. That’s why I was interested in watching this. I loved dinosaurs growing up so was wanting to see this. As a Jurassic Park fan, it was nice seeing a dinosaur movie & not knowing when the dinosaur scenes are coming so being in suspense about that. The best death is when a Centrosaurs spears one of the humans w/ its horn. The T-rex is very well done & intimidating. The dinosaur roars are unique. The music is mystifying & haunting. Apparently, looking online, the human scenes get lots of criticism for acting & dialogue in general, but I think that’s what made it fun.

I recommend this movie if you like dinosaurs or if you like special effects before everything was computerized.

Also, my DVD copy had shorts to 2 silent movies featuring dinosaurs. The first one "The Dinosaur & The Missing Link" is kind of dumb, tho I liked the ending. I enjoyed "Ghost of Slumber Peak" tho, about a guy who dreams he meets a ghost who gives him a glass to look thru & sees dinosaurs during a hike. Something fantastical about that I liked.

The Rescuers Down Under

I used to love this growing up. The soundtrack is amazing. The villain's truck is very cool, as is the villain himself. My cousin & I quote the "these are NOT Joanna eggs!" scene all the time. "I want the eagle, the boy has the eagle, the boy won't give me the eagle, but the boy's only got one weakness & that is the eagle. Did you take one of my eggs" "I'll give you platypus eggs, I'll give you chicken eggs, but I will - that's it! the eggs!"

Rewatching it now, my favorite part is where Cody rides on the eagle's back for the first time. The whole sequence is just amazing.

Aside from those pro's, on this recent re-watch, a lot of the movie fills like filler & I find the albatross & Joanna annoying.

"Pea soup!"

I finished the entire collection of Batman The Animated Series from the 90s. This series is really good & some argue is the definitive interpretation of the Dark Knight. Too many good episodes to list. My favorites tend to focus on the Joker, Ras al Ghul, 2 Face, Harley Quinn, Batgirl, & the Riddler. That being said, there are some duds. Most of the 3rd collection of DVD's starts leaving the noir feel behind & getting too comical or looney for me.

I recommend this series to any Batman or superhero fan.

I watched the movie Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero

It’s only an hour, it could’ve been cut short into a 2-parter episode or extended into the hour-and-a-half. It feels less like a movie & more like an extended episode. I did like Mr. Freeze in it. I think this is my favorite BTAS story w/ him in it, tho he has some great dialogue & voice acting in his debut episode Heart of Ice. There’s also some really neat shots of the Batwing you wouldn’t see in a typical episode. I also liked the motorcycle chase w/ Robin. The problem w/ this movie is I just see myself forgetting most of it in a couple weeks. It’s good, nothing bad, just good.

I give this 3/5

The Batman movie The Killing Joke

This really seems like 2 stories strung together into 1, as the first 35 minutes focuses on Batgirl & only the second 35 minutes focuses on the Joker.

I'm torn. I think I like the Batgirl 'segment' better, but that's maybe because I was largely spoiled on the Joker 'segment'? But the best part of the Joker segment is the end where I was most spoiled on!

But the Batgirl segment has little to do w/ the Joker segment which is the whole point of the movie! I think the connection is that Batgirl had a 'bad day' where she almost lost herself like the Joker did in his origin, but the problem is Batgirl just disappears for the second half.

I give this 3/5

I'm looking forward to finishing the mechanical bits, and taking my Hotshot out for a spin. The camera work in this video is fantastic, and the scenery is awe inspiring.

Here's to rekindling old hobbies.

The Iron Giant (1998)

I remember seeing it in theaters & thinking it was boring. Now on re-watch I like the slower pace. I like the government character Kent & was relieved he is the main antagonist over the old trope of having it be old military generals. The voice acting is also really good. I like the shots of the giant's head poking thru the trees. But I can't help but thinking it's an ET repeat. Also I don't really like the movie's messages: guns are bad, the country's xenophobic, & you choose. If you can overlook the messages or like that kind of stuff, you'll probably love the movie.

I've seen this one pop up on the Internet as an old classic a lot of people think more people should see. I don't quite see it as that.
