Feeling a little discouraged with life because I don't feel like I'm of this world, but I need to participate in it in order to survive in it. I quit my job 3 months ago in order to try and pursue my own business and during these few months, I've become closer to God and started reading the bible more and feel less and less encouraged to even pursue that dream anymore because I'm not even sure if it would be part of God's plan for me. It's so hard to tell what the future will hold since the state of the world at the moment just doesn't seem livable in and feels like it'll be getting worse. I say this because I believe we're living in the end times and I don't want to waste my time over useless things when I'll be needing to survive whatever may be coming. Learning that I'm not supposed to be doing what I want, but what God wants just has me confused. I usually pray that He will reveal his purpose for me and to only put on my path what He feels necessary.
I do have a job interview today, so I'm hoping that if the outcome is positive, maybe it'll help me get outside of my head and give me that perspective I need to maybe see where my life is taking me.
You're very perceptive, and I wish I had, earlier in life, acquired the insight you now have. Your conflict, as a Christian, means you're realizing you have the ability to live apart from the world while still living in it. Our true purpose is not to pursue worldly things, but a far greater destination - God Himself. Granted, it isn't easy living in this insane world - but if we keep our goal in sight - the eternal quest of getting to God - we'll be less apt to seek temporary and vaporous earthly things. Our true purpose will be revealed to us as we go along.
Keep growing in your faith and when you step out into the world, you'll take that mindset with you and go to God when it's challenged. As to finding your path - you are already on it - the details will work out with His help. With Jesus at your side, you can adapt to any and every situation that comes your way - a job, a business, a relationship - will all be guided by Him.
This might help, "We live in a world of darkness, but we are not part of that darkness. We are not of the world because we are in Christ; we have the light. And while we are still in the world, we are called to be set apart ..." Matthew 5:13-16 Life will take you many places, and on that journey you'll be set apart, but consider it a blessing that you'll be walking in the light. God bless you.
