I been meaning to say this is ironic.
It is in scriptures, and like everything else scriptures is not an encyclopedia on what all they meant.
But they are sufficient (according to God)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.
SO they preached and taught orally, and only wrote things later after the fact.
Yes, they did.
Do you that what they taught orally, was something
different than what they recorded?
So the keys were understood. IF you would like to know, follow Church history.
Not quite so easy.
Some ECF say one thing, some another.
Helpful, but not inspired.
ITS right there in in ink..
"Peter, here have the keys to MY Kingdom."
WHY is that SO hard to understand I wonder?
Nothing hard about that part!
It's right there in red and white.
"I give to you the keys"...
KEYS...what are keys ppl??
KEYS open and shut doors. Lock and unlock.
How much more do we need?
Some here think they keys were given to
ALL the Apostles.
And since Jesus did say to the others later
that whatsoever they open will be opened...
Sounds right to me too.
It is not ignorance that shields us from understanding the basics, it is by choice we refuse to understand them.
So all the different opinions on this thread are
due to our refusal to understand?
Hmmmmm, I dont think so angel.
Only thing I choose to refuse to do is to follow
what any man or woman tells me is truth
withOUT searching the Scriptures to find out
if it's true what they say.
I have to stand before God ALONE one day.
And so have to give an answer for MY choices.
Just putting in some perspective which is never easy and never received well.
But this is just
your perspective.
Not that yours is not important, but:
As you've seen, there are many others.
