Ten years ago today, an anti-government extremist named Timothy McVeigh parked a Ryder truck filled with fertilizer and fuel oil in front of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. At 9:02 in the morning, the truck exploded and carved out the guts of that building like a gourd. 168 people, including 19 children, died in the blast. It remains today the most devastating act of domestic terrorism in American history.

McVeigh was birthed from a movement that became all too prominent during the 1990s. The militia people, they of the Black Government Helicopters and the theory that the United Nations was getting ready to take over the world, made up the far-right flank of Newt Gingrich's GOP back in the day. After Oklahoma City, however, the militias petered out and faded into the backwoods background from whence they came.

That breed of extremist was on the outside looking in at the time. They have been replaced today by an extremist movement of surpassing menace. Like the militias before them, this new breed likewise represents the far-right flank of the GOP. Unlike their predecessors, however, this new breed enjoys unprecedented insider status. They are represented vigorously in Congress and the White House, and are calling many of the shots.

McVeigh and his militia ilk wanted to destroy the government so they could keep their guns and pay no taxes, basically. McVeigh destroyed the Murrah building to strike a blow for this cause. As catastrophic as that attack was, it pales in comparison to the damage this nation will endure if these new extremists are allowed to have their way. Their vision of America does away with the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the separation of church and state.

They are the Theocrats, the Christian Taliban right here in America, and they are deadly dangerous both to this nation and the world entire. These people do not in any way represent mainstream Christianity, yet sadly they are redefining the meaning of that faith across the board. They would annihilate all that America has stood for these last two hundred years to 'save' the nation, literally as far as they are concerned, and right now, they believe they have the power to get everything they want.

It will be near as big as the Vatican and totally self-sufficient. Currently, it's the best, on-schedule, Halliburton-contracted construction site in Baghdad and all of Iraq. The Nation's Nicholas von Hoffman describes the creation of the new United States embassy.


Among the many secrets the American government cannot keep, one of its biggest (104 acres) and most expensive ($592 million) is the American Embassy being built in Baghdad. Surrounded by fifteen-foot-thick walls, almost as large as the Vatican on a scale comparable to the Mall of America, to which it seems to have a certain spiritual affinity, this is no simple object to hide.


So you think the Bush Administration is planning on leaving Iraq? Read on.


The Chicago Tribune reports, "Trucks shuttle building materials to and fro. Cranes, at least a dozen of them, punch toward the sky. Concrete structures are beginning to take form. At a time when most Iraqis are enduring blackouts of up to 22 hours a day, the site is floodlighted by night so work can continue around the clock."


It will come as less than a surprise to learn that this project is another Halliburton deal subbed out to an outfit in Kuwait. The Tribune says that "for security reasons, the new embassy is being built entirely by imported labor. The contractor, First Kuwaiti General Trading and Contracting Co., which was linked to human-trafficking allegations by a Chicago Tribune investigation last year, has hired a workforce of 900 mostly Asian workers who live on the site." In a land where half the population is out of work the United States ought to win countless native hearts and minds with this labor policy.


On the other hand, the latest is that the facilities for the 8,000 people scheduled to work in the vice-regal compound will be completed on time next year. Doubtless the cooks, janitors and serving staff attending to the Americans' needs and comforts in this establishment, which is said to exceed in luxury and appointments anything Saddam Hussein built for himself, will not be Iraqis either.


According to Knight Ridder, "US officials here [in Baghdad] greet questions about the site with a curtness that borders on hostility. Reporters are referred to the State Department in Washington, which declined to answer questions for security reasons." Photographers attempting to get pictures of what the locals call "George W's Palace" are confined to using telephoto lenses on this, the largest construction project undertaken by Iraq's American visitors.


Nonetheless, we know much of what is going on in the place, where there will soon be twenty-one buildings, 619 apartments with very fancy digs for the big shots, restaurants, shops, gym facilities, a swimming pool, a food court, a beauty salon, a movie theater (we can't say if it's a multiplex) and, as the Times of London reports, "a swish club for evening functions." This should be ideal for announcing the various new milestones marking the trudge of the Iraqi people toward democracy and freedom.


USA Today has learned that the "massive new embassy, being built on the banks of the Tigris River, is designed to be entirely self-sufficient and won't be dependent on Iraq's unreliable public utilities." Thus, there will be no reason or excuse for any of the thousands of Americans working in this space, which is about the size of eighty football fields, to share the daily life experience of an Iraqi or even come in accidental contact with one.


"It's no secret why a luxurious embassy might be needed in Baghdad. The State Department is finding it more difficult to persuade people to staff the embassy here," writes Knight Ridder's Leila Fadel. "The post needs people with language skills and experience that are already hard to find. Americans can't bring their families here, and the kidnappings and violence relegate Americans to the embassy complex." Thus it appears that our diplomatic personnel are more like mercenaries than Doctors Without Borders. The "above and beyond the call of duty" stuff is strictly for our beleaguered soldiers.


This gigantic complex does not square with the repeated assertions by the people who run the American government that the United States will not stay in the country after Iraq becomes a stand-alone, democratic entity. An "embassy" in which 8,000 people labor, along with the however many thousand military personnnel necessary to defend them, is not a diplomatic outpost. It is a base. A permanent base.


So it turns out that the plan, if that is the right word for the haphazard, faith-based, fact-free and data-scarce decision-making that has been the one constant in this adventure, is to stay in Baghdad and run the country. This is beyond lunacy.


There are these 8,000 Americans holed up in a private city, who do not dare to leave their fortified luxury bunker for fear of being killed or kidnapped and tortured if caught outside their fortified walls, and who are trying to run the country by giving orders to the Iraqi government, which is also operating out of the Green Zone, that vast fortified place isolated from the people of the country.


Democrats demanding an exit strategy from Iraq are routinely derided by the Bush Administration as cowards who "cut and run." But if this Embassy plan is not a form of cut and run, what is it? Instead of cutting and making a run for Kuwait, they intend to cut and run into what amounts to the world's largest bunker, a capacious rat hole where they can wait in safety until all the Iraqis have killed one another or all factions unite, march on this air-conditioned citadel and slit the throats of its irrelevant inhabitants.

Hey GG - "Waking Up" is often not a "feel-good" experience. Like finding out that Santa & the Easter Bunny don't exist... hence the strong resistance.

America has COUNTLESS MILLIONS of marvelous people, with huge hearts, who will come together and rebuild a neighbor's burnt-down barn, participate in charities, give a helping hand to friends in need (yes, you - sdodd). Otherwise immediate action would have been taken to protect POTUS.

4) "Do the orders still stand?" inquired the worried young assistant. Involving the "plane" which was "10 miles from the Pentagon". If they WERE IN FACT ORDERS TO SHOOT IT DOWN, they had already had PLENTY OF TIME to do it, since this was a repeat of SEVERAL ENTRANCES by the same staffer, disclosing the ever-approaching "plane".

So, if it had IN FACT been a "SHOOT-DOWN ORDER", don't imaging one minute that our F15s and F16s, along with the MISSLE DEFENSE systems at the Pentagon were incapable of "bringing it down".

The only conclusion remaining is that it was a "DON'T SHOOT DOWN" order.

But that's all that stands up to reason.

First it wasn't enough to scare the bejesis outta anyone going into a highrise building ever again but to do the same for anyone going to fly again . . . more fear for the buck . . . and second to make the whole operation a money making opportunity by buying massive amounts of Puts on the two airline companys. It worked too . . . they changed America forever and made a fortune doing it.

The fact that finally came out was that the put options on American & United (no other airlines) in extremely high volume, had originated in the trading firm belonging to ex-CIA director Buzzy Krongard.

After that, we heard no more about those puts, apart from the release that the proceeds had NOT been collected.

And also that the records of the trades had been siezed by the FBI at the Chicago Exchange, never to be seen again.

Almost by accident did I stumble into this forum - here for the PMs commentaries.

But in the face of repeated re-assertion of the patent lies that have been (so well) drilled into the populace's mindset, I felt a "moral duty" to point out the falsehoods of the drivel they've come to consider "truth".

And yet again... facing a rabid mob. Interrupted only by a few thinking individuals - but the rabid mob just loves big red highlights, insults, threats... while the "thinkers" would rather be PROVEN WRONG by LOGIC - and change their opinion if/when that logic should be substantiated.

I cant believe it. Dacrunch posted a link to the video where the owner of WTC 7 admits he "pulled" down building 7 in a controilled demolition. Well that ends debate about how WTC 7 came down - with explosives as admitted, since to "pull down a building" means to use explosives to bring it down and is an industry term used to describe a controlled demolition.
Problem is, it takes many weeks to plant the explosives to pull down a building.
Are you going to say the owner of WTC 7 lied and he did not pull down buiilding 7 as he said he did on the video?
