• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sometimes when we’ve had a difficult past it seems we need to learn how to / remember to value ourselves. For me this can be an ongoing process. Even though in my mind I know that I’m worthwhile and need to respect the life God has given me and appreciate my gifts, I can inwardly struggle at times to really acknowledge this in my inner being / heart. This can happen after an onslaught of difficult times or people treating me badly. A couple of my favourite passages are as follows:


16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

I thought it would be great if we shared how we value ourselves and the different things that seem to help us in regards to this issue. Feel free to share graphics, songs and little tid bits if you wish.

I only included a small portion of Psalm 139 but the whole passage really is wonderful and speaks to this topic and God’s character. These two passages have helped me immensely regarding my views on this issue and I wanted to share them. I simply ask that we not judge each other’s worth and be sensitive when sharing regarding this issue. God bless! :)

Well, I had a great time singing the other day. It's like devotions / prayer but in song. My point is that in spending time with God I felt so much better / renewed. I think this is an important thing for me to remember. God loves us and desires relationship with us. God bless. :)

God has used you and your honesty immensely today. :hug: Yes, when I really think about it and look at the Bible, there are so many ways God has expressed His love and his intricate plans for our lives. Thank you, colleen for such positive messages. Big Hug! How I love your kind spirit! I'm reading Chicken Soup for the Soul, "Find your happiness" - highly recommended. One story stated that happiness is found in achieving a goal you set for yourself, no matter how small it is. My happiness is found in serving God, and pleasing Him.... also value myself to take care of my emotion, spirit, and body.

I watched the two videos that Colleen1 posted - they are truly inspirational songs. Jaci Velasquez's song made me cry, that's how beautiful and uplifting it was. Brit Nicole's song is fun - my kid likes her.

You're welcome. :) Yes, I think we are God's creation so I know, personally speaking, that I should be treating myself better. Many times it's easy to be concerned about others needs and taking care of even our basic needs can get neglected. I need to have a better balance with this in my life.

The Gospel is Good News. Its message tells us about how Jesus gives us a new beginning (born again), that Jesus has accomplished and freely gifted to us the ability to know Father without hindrance, and that with our life being 'hid in Christ' we can learn to see ourselves from the perspective of who we now are in Christ as the basis of our identity.

Abused, pained, devalued degraded - yes you were. Memories of those times remain. But now loved (always), accepted (unconditionally), understood (and never diminished in value by God whatever you went through and how feel about yourself) because of what Jesus accomplished by His death and resurrection, a precious child of God.

Learn to see yourself as God sees you in Christ. And a pox on any church teaching that obscures the wonder of your new identity.
