• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok first of all yes i am gay, but what you all don't seem to understand is being gay is not a choice  i was never attracted to girls even in primary school but my feelings for men started when i was 12, i did not choose to be gay it just happend i can't help it.

You think i would go through all the heartache of homophobia, My parents won't speak to me. people think gay people are people who act like girls well they are not (well not me anyway) i am just a normal guy who likes Guys

I know none off you will agree with me and you will think i should be dead and that i should be prayed for

I am just making my point

There ARE very supportive people on CF who will accept you as you are and offer any support they can.

There are also many mean-minded, bigoted, truly hate-filled people who will smile at you while doing everything they can to destroy your faith -- and your self-confidence as well if they think they can get away with it.

They will happily tell you that "they love the sinner and hate the sin" and then do everything in their power to make the "sinner's" life a living nightmare; they will tell you that you're an "abomination" and use Scripture as a weapon to cut you off at the knees spiritually and emotionally -- all the while ignoring any Scriptures which could possibly pertain to them.

They'll quote the same seven Scriptures over and over and OVER again because they seem to believe that nobody but them has ever read Scripture; and even if we have read Scripture (including the original Greek and Hebrew) that doesn't really matter: their intepretation is the only "correct" one.

They'll pick you apart while telling you that they're interested "in your salvation" while conveniently overlooking every flaw they have in their own moral character -- and don't try pointing their flaws out to them because frankly, they're not interested; and they are veritable masters at minding everybody else's business but their own. You'll quickly figure out who these people are: avoid them like the plague.

Here is a list of 38 Ways To Win An Argument With a Liberal. It's a compendium of all the things you'll hear from some not-so-well-meaning as they do everything in their power to sabotage your arguments and your faith in order for them to reach the Holy Grail of "being right". Become very familiar with it: these are actual statements you're going to hear on this messageboard and others like this one.

Oh -- and if you'll PM me, I can direct you to some other sites where people actually talk the talk and walk the walk about being Christian (regardless of sexual orientation). Even when people disagree, they've learned the art of disagreeing agreeably -- something which is in terribly short supply here at CF.

That's not true. Romans 1 is pretty clear about "natural function" and "unatural".
The relationships are referred to as being unnatural. the Greek words physin and paraphysin have been translated to mean natural and unnatural respectively. Contrary to popular belief, the word paraphysin does not mean "to go against the laws of nature", but rather engage in action(s) which is uncharacteristic for that person. An example of the word paraphysin is used in Romans 11:24, where God acts in an uncharacteristic (paraphysin) way to accept the Gentiles. Thus the passages correctly reads that it would be unnatural for heterosexuals to live as homosexuals, and for homosexuals to live as heterosexuals.

Romans 1 isn’t a cndmenation of homosexuals…rather it is a condemnation of ex-gay ministries

Note that "it's not natural" no longer qualifies as a weapon you can use against gay people

Weapons are hard to let go of, arent' they?

Where, with whom, and using what text did you study Ancient Greek?

Since the majority of pedophiles are heterosexual men, what's your point?

My point is that they do not appear to "choose" to be attracted to children. Thus, an "orientation" is not justification in and of itself.

And many of these same Christians will also make assumptions that we know nothing about sin, salvation, repentence, etc. -- and all too often aren't familiar with John 3:17 (the verse after the one everybody knows: For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

But what would I know? After all, I'm a liberal Christian. :o

So you agree that there can be an orientation rather than a choice. So if pedophilia can be an orientation, why can't homosexuality be an orientation?

But our Father has given moral isntruction only to those He made in His image, not the animals. Just because a dog (or other animal) does it by instinct, that doesn't mean it isn't a sin for people.

I know of no reason at all to believe that that's true. None of it.

Correction, they will tell you their opinion. Truth is far from demonstrated.

Why does homosexuality need to be justified? What actual harm is caused by homosexuality?

Hint: "jesus don't like it" or "I find it disgusting or icky or an abomination" doesn't count as harm, unless you are likely to have a nervous breakdown because of it or something. Which would be your own fault for getting worked up over nothing.
