I'm going to university in 47 days [yes i'm counting down] but I'm so worried about...

how I'm going to manage at university,

what I will do [I don't drink, go out clubbing or go to pubs] on freshers week

how I'm going to manage in halls [I have autism, I find staying in a place that isn't comewhere i'm used too or that is noisy quite difficult]

I'm worried about church and how I'm going to go to one [at home, I have support at church, someone who will sit with me and explain things i don't understand as well as hold me when I start to shake]

and I'm worried about a bunch of little things like...

what do i take with me?
what do i do with my medication?
how do i deal with all the change?
will God be cross with me if I find going to church difficult?

xxx

Not everyone else will be out drinking and clubbing. I am sure you will find others who are not doing those things.

Does your university know you are autistic? I know in the U.S. they are legally required to make accommodations for that, but I am not sure about U.K. laws on the matter. I would look into seeing if your university can make accommodations for you.

I am not sure what to tell you about this, honestly.

what do i take with me?
Whatever you think you need.
what do i do with my medication?
Continue taking it.
how do i deal with all the change?
Ask, pray, learn
will God be cross with me if I find going to church difficult?
No.

For "what to do"....there should be lots of advertisement and recruiting events for the clubs around campus....gather info and go visit any that you find remotely interesting, even if you have never tried it...that is how you find "like-minded" friends

For church...well, just plan on doing some visiting for the first few weeks...and look for religious clubs. You can google search the various available churchs and map out a plan. It will take some time, but it is worth it. Sometimes you will find a church through a Christian club where a number of the members attend the same one so you don't have to go alone.

As for the noise, invest in a good pair of noise filtering headphones...they can be used even without being plugged into anything when you need silence for studying or just your sanity. Also use a mp3 player for when you want music, either background or to focus on. If you need silence while walking around, use the headphones attached to a turned off mp3 player or just stuff the wire in your pocket...no one will know. ;)

In the UK everyone goes out for freshers. The first week is just a huge party. Even if you join a 'society' its just a way to meet other people with similar interest that you go out drinking with...

I suppose if you just stay in your room during Freshers it's a good way to avoid going out.

The drinking culture is different here. It's not frowned upon at all. It'sjust something people do.

You could make sure to meet your nearest Residential Advisor and let them know you might need assistance. Email the uni and asked to be put in halls for second or third years. They are usually much quieter. I emailed and said I preferred a quieter hall and I got a house with 6 third year girls. It was silent the whole year.

During Freshers week go to the trade fair and see if there are churches there that are welcoming to students. Ask to meet with the pastor and explain your situation.

If you don't want to go out during freshers then just stay in your room and get started on reading material for your lectures.

I know the drinking culture is different in Europe. I just didn't know what freshers was, I thought it was like orientation or something.
