  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

XP Home, video editing, me likes it more...

:)

I understand. I used to be a Win2K user myself. But I’m in the business of multilingual computing, and WinXP supports even more languages than Win2K, so there was no question at all for me.

Currently I have a AMD 2400+XP, 256 MB DDR RAM, a DVD drive, a CD R/W (forgot the read/write speads), and a 64MB Geforce2.

I'd really like to do some upgrades, mainly get some RAM, a new video card, a DVD-R, and a better CPU fan.

looks like we have something in common.

I build my own comps, more fun, and more reliable (at least for me because I know what I'm doing)... this current rig is:

-Athlon XP 2700+
-Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu cooler (this thing is so sick)
-3 Antec Blue LED 80X80 Case Fans
-2 Antec 80X80 Case Fans
-Modded Antec power supply (put a REAL LED fan in there, not just an LED like the "True Blue") with cord sleeves
-Black rounded IDE cables
-Asus A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard (Nforce 2 Chipset)
-Geforce 4 Ti 4600
-Sound Blaster Audigy 2
-1 GB of Corsair Pro DDR400 Cas 2.0
-Western Digital 80 GB HD with 8mb Buffer
-IBM 45 GB HD
-Some 3Com network card (does it really matter? lol)
-16X Toshiba DVD Drive (Spraypainted to match case and LEDs changed)
-44X Yamaha CD-RW Drive (Spraypainted to match case, this thing also has the CD-Tattoo function where I can write words on the underside of the CD, it's cool)
-Floppy Drive (Spraypainted to match case and LEDs changed)
-Antec Plusview Case (with custom LEDs... lol)
-Win 2k
-19" ViewSonic P95+
-Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0+ (Optical)
-Microsoft Elite Keyboard with Blue LEDs installed
-Rat Padz GS mouse pad (this thing is awesome for gaming)
-Plantronics Audio .90 headphones

My little bro's comp is an Athlon 64 3200+ with a Radeon 9800se. My mom's is my old P3 1 Ghz and a Geforce 4 MX card.. I've also got a computer in the garage with an Athlon 1.4 and a Geforce 3... and I built all of them :)

It’s a pity, IMO, that people don’t mention what OS[es] they have installed on their machines. The OS is an integral part of the computer. And I’d like to have an idea of how many people use alternative (ie non-Microsoft :D) OSes.

Windows XPletive on both.

I don’t call XP names, it serves me so well.

I'm tempted however to give into the constant nagging of my friends and give Linux a try.

Ah, your friends have been preaching the gospel of Linux. I did give Linux a try, and I’ve decided to stay under the peace of the Roman Empire (Pax Microsoft). I like free (GNU) software and all that, but that software (TeX, The Gimp, Ghostscript, html2ps, FOP and a lot more) is available under Windows as well; and Windows XP has better multilingual support than Linux, which for me is a decisive factor.

I totally agree! :) I've built 7 computers, including the one I'm currently using. (2 of them are no longer in use - they're too out-of-date.)

I agree. I have been building them for 10 years. Using them for 15. I believe that I have built thousands of them by now. To this day the only ones I don't like building are my own when it's time to upgrade them.

However, I've built machines from the IBM AT on up. The worst to work on so far was an Emachines. :S
