Because the context of this scripture does NOT lend itself to being set aside, but to be discarded as garbage. Useless, of no value.
That's exactly what we do with garbage. We set it aside. The context DOES lend itself to being set aside. And there are NO verses that indicate one's salvation can be lost.
The loss of salvation is the loss of being the salt itself. Jesus says LOST.
The salt wasn't "lost". It's savoryness was lost. It's effectiveness was lost, not the salt.
Well as I have made it very clear, I do NOT label myself as an Arminian.
The verse I provided in just one of them. Luke 8:13 is another parable that shows loss of salvation.
No! Jesus never said anything about loss of salvation. The parable was about being fruitful, not about staying saved.
As in anything from scripture, the preponderance contributes to the understanding, as in the case of salvation being lost, there is enough to warrant it's justification.
There is NOTHING to warrant that view. Not ANY verse says that salvation can be lost.
We must be FAITHFULL and persevere, as Paul teaches in Rom 11:20-22;
Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.
The message is clear...we have to continually exercise our free will, to stay in God's will, by obeying and submitting to Him.
How about some of that "preponderance" of Scripture that you speak of.
This is why believers must be faithful and persevere.
2 John 1:8
Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,
Colossians 3:24
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
None of these indicate that we work (persevere) for salvation. We do it for reward.
In addition, consider these verses:
John 14:16
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
John 14:17
that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
Ephesians 1:13
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvationhaving also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 4:30
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Now, given these verses of the promise of the Holy Spirit and His sealing of the believer, consider these verses:
2 Corinthians 1:22
who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
2 Corinthians 5:5
Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.
What has God pledged by His Spirit being put in believers? We are sealed for the day of redemption. That is a guarantee.
