The president's tweets come amid a back-and-forth between the commission and the Trump and Biden campaigns

President Trump on Thursday pushed back against the idea of possible changes to future debates with Democratic nominee Joe Biden after the Commission on Presidential Debates suggested it could modify the rules and format -- and some Democrats even floated that the next showdowns include a "mute button."

"Why would I allow the Debate Commission to change the rules for the second and third Debates when I easily won last time?" Trump tweeted Thursday.

The president's tweets come amid a back-and-forth between the commission and both the Trump and Biden campaigns.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., this week suggested a "mute button" would be necessary for another debate to take place. "Maybe we should give the moderator a mute button, given how President Trump just interrupts at will," Schumer said a day after the first debate. "And the bottom line is Donald Trump doesn't follow the rules [and] the commission has got to get a lot tougher."

I found my dream "mute button" in CF's IGNORE feature, and it’s delightful companion database, PEOPLE YOU IGNORE. That works on a forum BEAUTIFULLY, but I would hate to see it in a Presidential debate because knock down/drag outs are great political theater.

I not think that I trust anyone with a mute button about what we are allowed to hear or not.

Things seem to be more and more controlled. No such thing as real news reporting anymore. It’s all partisan and relying on politifact and snopes to get through it is naive at best. In the meantime, everyone is losing their collective minds. A mute button is just asking for more trouble.

That's the thing, mainstream media already have a mute button. They decide which stories get covered and which ones don't. Their poor choice of coverage is a huge reason why most people don't trust them anymore.

Big tech is now in a position to censor the United States federal government. And they've done so a few times. Apparently, Congress doesn't mind Silicon Valley deciding what they are and aren't allowed to say in public.

So can we at least maintain the appearance of free speech by not muting the President?

Agreed. They just slowly keep squeezing tighter and tighter.
