Trump Says Saudi Explanation of Journalist’s Death Is Credible, in Break With U.S. Intelligence

Trump has sided with murderers instead of US intel.
Trump Says Saudi Explanation of Journalist’s Death Is Credible, in Break With U.S. Intelligence

WASHINGTON — President Trump broke with his own intelligence agencies on Friday, appearing to accept Saudi Arabia’s explanation that the journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed by accident during a fistfight, while the United States’ spy agencies are increasingly convinced that he was assassinated on high-level orders from the Saudi royal court.

Mr. Trump, who has cultivated Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and made Saudi Arabia the linchpin of his Middle East strategy, has been deeply reluctant to point a finger at the prince, despite evidence linking him to Saudi operatives who entered the country’s consulate in Istanbul the same day that Mr. Khashoggi disappeared there.

Asked during a visit to an Air Force base in Arizona whether he viewed the Saudi explanation as credible, Mr. Trump said, “I do.”

The president said he still had questions for Prince Mohammed, and he called the killing of Mr. Khashoggi “unacceptable.” Mr. Trump also raised the possibility of sanctions against Saudi Arabia, but said that he hoped that Congress would not try to block billions of dollars in weapons sales to the kingdom, which he has held up as proof of the fruits of the alliance.

There was a fistfight, with 15 people, and Kashoggi accidentally died.

Then the leader of the group accidentally removed the bone saw that he accidentally brought with him and dismembered him.

Like you do after an accidental death.

Trump: SOUNDS LEGIT.

One must remember Trumo is not just a politician, he’s a business man, who makes lots of money off of the Gulf States specifically Saudi.
And he is fully aware of that, which is one reason why he is so unqualified to be president. Is he as president making decisions in the interests of the US or his own bank balance?

I see no reason to think that he has reversed a life time of grift and avarice now that he has even more opportunities to indulge both.

Trump has literally made a bigger deal about Elizabeth Warren's ancestry & Stormy Daniels face than a journalist being butchered. Smh.

The job of intelligence agencies is to provide intelligence to the president.

And it's the president's prerogative whether or not he accepts their conclusions.

Intelligence agencies are not infallible.

Frankly, I'm glad he isn't making ridiculous statements about this and is holding back making statements we all might regret. He appears to be taking this seriously, maybe even fearful of making a mistake.

Just to play the devil's advocate....it wouldn't be the first time that US intelligence got foreign actions wrong; that's how we ended up in Iraq and "shock and awe".
If the president acts on faulty intelligence the president would get the blame for whatever goes wrong in the aftermath as what happened to President Bush. President Trump is well aware of that and remembers what happened with Iraq, and that's why he doesn't automatically trust whatever conclusion the intelligence agencies come up with. He listens to them and then has to judge whether or not what they are saying makes sense and has enough supporting evidence. And even if he decides that the intelligence is right, he still has to decide what course of action would be most prudent, trying to resolve it diplomatically whenever possible to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.

Have you spoken with the President, did he tell you this? I don't think so.
All we can do at this point is speculate about why he is reacting and speaking the way he is.

He has given his view on it in interviews and in speeches and debates.

He claims he has no financial ties with the Saudis which is yet another of his lies.

Intelligence agencies are not infallible.

Trump calls anyone who disagrees with him liars & calls Saudi Arabia & Putin credible on account of how they line up with what he wants.

The duty of the POTUS is to work on behalf of the American people, not on behalf of himself.
