(I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Sometimes, it's like herding cats!)

Nice to hear from you again, Strawberry. I, too taught that level for a year. Often the temptation presented itself of drowning at least half of them. The fact that I'm not in prison shows I resisted. It wasn't easy though...

Hi everyone! Thanks for the welcomes!

I LOVE my kids. They're great kids. Believe it or not, this will be my 19th year of teaching the 7th & 8th grades. Some of my first students are married and have kids. (while I go on being unmarried and [happily] child free. Not that I don't LOVE kids...I'm just happier giving 'em back! :)) One of my first students was just ordained last Fall. I'm so proud of them all but he made me cry. He told me that I was one of the people instrumental in him heeding the Call. *sniff*

I have fun teaching this age, I guess 'cause I've never really "grown up" myself. They sure do keep me on my toes though. I've devised a list of "Classroom Comfort Conditions" and they all pretty much abide by them. They know if they don't, they'll be sent to Pastor's class and he tends to single them out during the Sermon (to answer questions) if they should show up for being "bad". They don't like that at ALL so...they behave. I've never had to send a kid to Pastor's class in my 19 years...but they all know what will happen if I do! :D

Last night, our Sunday School director, who is also the President of the Woman's Guild, asked me if I would consider being the Spiritual Life Coordinator for the WG! I was flabbergasted but said that I'd pray over it and let her know. I'm leaning toward doing it but...that shyness thing is rearing its ugly head. Perhaps I need to reread the story of Moses. Right? :D

Gosh, it's so nice to be welcomed by you all! I've never known just how to "jump in" and all...but my kids rescue me again! I'll try and participate more! I promise! :D

Our Pastor's wife tells the story of when she was teaching that age. The congregation was meeting in a school building while the church was under construction. Pastor's adult Sunday School was in one part of the building and the middle school kids were in another. Pat had been called in to tame the unruly kids, because the woman who had volunteered just couldn't control them.

Pat only had to bellow once. Pastor heard her on the other side of the school building, and just smiled. The kids didn't act up again.

There are certain things one learns by being the wife of an army chaplain... *snickers*

I absolutely love teaching kids that age level. They're old enough to have a conversation with and yet young enough to still want to learn. For the most part, the "attitudes" are not yet in play.

Besides, I better love it because I'm going to be locked in a farm house with about 20 of them the weekend after Easter. That's our confirmation retreat weekend.
But it's all good. There'll be enough adults around, including three other pastors, to keep them in line... and keep me sane! :p

No kidding. I saw that on the weather today. I looked pretty scary, but this seems to be the year for it as we've all been hit with some bad storms this spring.

It was 86 here today, so of course it will rain soon. They are forcasting highs in the 60's this weekend, but we are supposed to get hammered with rain tomorrow through Friday.

It's been lovely and warm the last few days. Rainy and chilly this morning, though. Glad we got most of Gem's playset up before the weather turned. I'm looking forward to my morning cup of coffee, more for the heat than the caffeine today.
