I say ""Small Kald", but was corrected by someone I doubt who swears it's "Small Keld". Go figure!

My devotions this week have been from the WELS' Meditations. My pastor suggested it in lieu of Portals of Prayer and I am getting a great deal from it on both levels of the law and the gospel. See if your pastor has some on hand, Seajoy.

Hmm. I may look into that. I tried to use Portals of Prayer for a while, but it got so.. repetative after a time. Maybe I'm just used to more and varied themes in devotional books. I felt like rolling my eyes like my daughter does when I read the story of Moses or Joseph ONE MORE TIME.

The "other thread" about law and gospel really hit home with me, because I find that I am guilty of thinking "Okay, I get the gospel part -- Jesus died for my sins. Now give me something more."

There is nothing more. Just deeper ways of understanding that same message. It's a mental shift in how I think about the Bible and the message God gives us through it.

It really struck me the other day when I was watching Godspell with my daughter. It's based on Matthew, and does a fairly good job of illustrating Jesus' parables (she especially loves the Prodigal Son section). But the Law was only hinted at and the Gospel was glossed over. Five years ago that wouldn't have bothered me much. Now it does.

Visiting my rhuematologist, cleaning my house (kids are coming home to help tear down our old deck, and celebrate Easter).

My hubby is hoping to take thursday and friday off (with his work, you never know). We plan on attending all 4 services that our church is offering the rest of this week.

That's about it I guess. I suppose your hubby isn't taking any time off work this week!

And yes, we are grateful to be found by our Precious Lord. It amazes me that in this vast world, I was brought to Him. The depth of His love knows no bounds.

So I guess the next time I actually talk with my daughter I need to ask her how to pronounce Smalcald in German?

I can tell you we don't pronounce Augsburg the way the Germans do. I can't even say it the way they do. It is the burg part that I struggle with.

So I am content to use the English pronunciations.

It is a wonderful thing. I've done things I've never done before. Who'd ever think I'd get in front of a bunch of people and speak. I did the readings yesterday. I'm not one that gets up in front of people. I was a little nervous when I first got up there. I said a little prayer in my head, all I said was Lord please help me, I calmed down quickly, got louder and was not scared and didn't need my paper bag.

You know, that's one thing I miss terribly. I'm not sure how to spell the name, but I belive it's called the perecofie system (or maybe pericophie). Spelling has never been my strong suit. Still, it's nice to have the old and new testiment tied together that way. Many churches teach only out of the New Testament and lose so much in the process.

I hope to go down to Redding for church this week. We'll see what happens.

I would add a great deal of Luke, Isaiah and some of the Pentateuch to the reading this week as well, but it does include both Old and New Testament readings.

People in my congregation would complain about that. We had an issue concerning such matters last year...I stayed out of it.

There's a couple issues that bothers with this church, this isn't one of them. Its a small church and the women out number the men.
