The word "field" is a racial slur now.

I see it is a trend, now. There will be more and more words of the language targeted, for being offensive in some way or another, as more are being eliminated from our language. After all, no girls (how long do I have before I would supposed to be not saying that word?) are being named Karen when they are born anymore. I was perceiving this which is becoming a trend when I heard for the first time a long while ago the word moist is offensive. I don't agree it should be considered so. And of course the word field is far to general to exclude. I find it hard to believe there are many books at all without the word field in them. Where will this lead? This is very disturbing.
Then we'll also have to see campaigns to ban any songs that contain the word "field", first from being played on the radio, then sold on Amazon, followed by those who own a copy of them being labeled as racist for keeping such a thing in their possession. The Best Songs With Field in the Title

It is a general trend I am seeing now, 'field', but other words too, would become words considered offensive, and then taboo, so any mention of those words will have things with that being banned, songs, books, or anything. It is a horrible trend, while our world is worsening and we need awareness, to not just ride along with it.

Your friendly local DEI department in a company or government agency near you.
I still feel quite free to plant a field, to take field measurements, to play in the outfield - in those terms.

I will be fielding questions later.

I can't help but see this as counter-productive. Treating slavery as though it were "field work", that slaves were "field workers" and targeting "field" undermines the evil of slavery. The enslaved weren't field workers, they were enslaved.

In the case of immigrant field workers, the issue isn't field work, it's the exploitation and exploitative nature of how it's done that is the problem.

Am I missing something?

You are missing nothing.

As I said at the beginning, there has never been an issue with the word "field" before, not even with black people who have been working in fields since the 1960s or had recently moved out of working in fields. People were glad to have moved away from fields to the office, but there was no shame seen in having done it.

I worked a day chopping cotton in the fields as a teenager...just to say that I'd done it.

Just wait until going to the gym to get "whipped into shape" will be considered racist. Or when rugged individualism, the scientific method, rational thinking, or even history itself is racist.
