Breathless now, the girl nevertheless picked up her pace. Trellises covered with swinging vines flashed by until she all but tubmled into a shady courtyard dominated by a fountain. It was sculpted into the shape of a sword, and at the base of the sword was a single gilded chair.

"You are late. Again." the occupant of the chair stated with an icy hint to her voice.
"Sorry, my lady. But I was reading, and lost track of time." the girl apologized, sucking air into her lungs.
"Well, you had better not be late for your assignment." The woman in the chair scowled.
"Assignment?" The girl cocked her head.
"Yes! Why else do you think I called you here today, Aneirin? To polish my shoes?! I think not." The woman's scowl deepened. "I sense a distubance at the gate. I want you to go investigate the cause of this disturbance, and see if it could possible help us in our pusuit of dominince for our goddess Chama." She waved her hand. "Leave immediately. You are dismissed."
Aneirin had a million questions floating through her mind, but she dared not voice them to the High Priestess. "Yes, my lady." She bowed and backed out of the courtyard, retracing her steps.
This latest 'assignment' puzzled her. Normally she wasn't even allowed off the temple grounds, let alone all the way to the Gate! She headed for the stables, sighing in confusion. Once there, she saddled a white mare and left quickly. If the High Preistess told you to leave immediately, it meant you had to leave immediately, or else face her rath.
The mare's pounding hoofbeats echoed off the stone walls as Aneirin left the temple and the mare picked up speed until she was galloping through the Citadel to the gate.

((Thanks, Less, for posting that tiny post so I can go on with my posts...but I can't save you guys, because CC hasn't told me I can.))

The mare, flanks heaving, sides speckled with sweat, paused at the top of a tiny hill.
"There is a disturbance at the gate." Aneirin told the mare. "Look over there!" She peered ahead at the scene of a small, ragtag group facing the group of wyrms.
"Hurry!" She kicked the mare and the horse took off again, galloping down the hill in a flurry of pounding hooves.

((It's still the same. The party is hovering outside the gates and the guards are hovering over the gates, ready to slaughter each other. There's a mage riding a mare rushing to the gate, but nobody yet knows what she's doing (including, in a sick way, she herself =P). Did I get it right? We're waiting for the guards' counter-move.))

ooc: welcome jf and shernen! my thanks to you both, and my apologies to all who have been waiting for me! I went on spring break and took a hiatus from the comp for a little while- and that's not any kind of excuse so i'll post now before anybody char's me with angry fire breath lol

ic:The five gaurds saw the figures before them- the roc and the firey-winged warrior among their most formidable- and knew that, for once in their long and boring assignment to their aerial post, they were in for some long-awaited action.

The leader's eyes glanced to his right. The right wingmen nodded. His eyes glanced to the left. The left wingmen nodded. The leader smirked, lowered his lance, and reigned up his wyrm, the others following suite.

Forth from the gaping fanged mouths of the wyrms thin streams of flames burst, as if from the tiny crater of a mighty volcano.

The spray startled the party who had been so diplomatically trying to inch their way into Citadel; no one was singed, but by the time they had recovered from the assault and the ensuing scarlet light, the wyrms and their riders were upon them. The batlike black wings cut the air about the party like a knife as they lunged back and forth about them in a blinding cage of light deliberately reflected off the steely blades of the gaurds' lances. The battle was begun by gaurds who knew not any reason to fight other than their duty, which was not so much in their minds as the opportunity to fight a foe that had previously been left entirely to the imagination.

ooc: i may not have time to post this evening- hence if i don't i give permission to any of you to do with the gaurds as you please. thanks again for your patience!

Aneirin's mare reared and whinnied, rolling the whites of her eyes in an equine protest at the battle raging below. Aneirin tried to hang on to the frantic horse but failed, grabbing vainly for her sword as she crashed unceremoniously to the ground. The mare turned and pounded off, leaving the girl stranded on the hillside.

Now Aneirin was faced with decision of either going back or staying. Now she not only did not have a horse, but her sword was lost as well. But the High Priestess had laid out the assignment clearly, and Aneirin did not want to disappoint the Priestess. She felt for the dagger she kept in her shoe and picked herself up off the ground, running down toward the chaos. She yelled, "Stop!" but her voice was lost in the uproar. Aneirin had the vague feeling that she was being incredibly stupid. She didn't know what she was doing, or why she was even risking her life to help this wayward band, but she did know she could not turn back now.

Tenkana dodged from the fiery attack and sent a few firebolts back at the wyrms. They groaned with pain right before they sent more jets of fire at him. This time, one hit and he fell about 20 feet before he recovered and began flying again. He charged back at the wyrms, slashing their armor...only to have his blade turned aside by their heavy carapace.
