Ostentero abounded with life. From its innermost springs, sanctum to spirits between worlds, the waters of Ostentero’s life bubbled up onto the cool damp soil to produce fertility. Sunlight gleamed off of the snowy mountaintops and dwellings of their folk; the northern wind grazed, with barely a whisper, the tall lush reeds of the fields. The dawn of an age was here and none heard its thundering herald horn.

Signs passed unnoticed, as those who had practiced such arts had been for centuries considered quiet people with a devotion to mysterious ways, forgotten ways, and so were ignored, given their plot of earth far into the valleys of Glamridis, left to their ancient art and silence and seclusion. It is to these and those like them that Ostentero would turn. It is these that kings and emperors would bow to in the end, for a gloom was coming, and it would consume them. But not now, not in this golden, glowing age of prosperity, not in this time of contentment, could any disturbance break the calm sea that was peace.

Silently, with fingers long and eyes unseen, a pall crept up from the realm of spirits, turning the bubbling, nourishing water to slick ebony mass that choked the plains, raping the land of all that was its beauty. As villages perished from starvation, masses swarmed the metropolises of the age, while some fled to the mountains, some to the northlands, and others to the quiet places. None could quell the toxic waters; only those few massive gardens used to support the cities, and that which was frozen survived untouched.

After some years of life despite the poison swamps, the air grew thick, and dark, and still. No wind blew; the sun gave only half-light; the stars were consumed every night by an inky shade. To the people of Ostentero, this weather anomaly was confounding, and like the swamps, unexplainable by any means they then possessed. Yet, they clung to their cities and their dwellings.

Years passed, and the emergence of malevolence in the land had emerged rampantly throughout the land. From the wombs of many species of animal were born monsters, hideous perversions of reality that sought only survival and the destruction of all around them. Nefarious tribes that were forced long ago into dormancy suddenly grew in number enough to challenge and even demolish several civilizations, scattering their remaining people into exile like the dusts of deserts, now frigid as the northlands. Kingdoms and provinces mad war upon each other, and now only a handful of prosperous city-states and kingdoms were not ruled by chaos and , or strewn beyond its borders, or overrun with floods or invasion.

Now the people of Ostentero believed their world was dieing; now, when their mighty principalities and golden age lay ruined beneath the swamps of noxious waters, the people cried out in their misery, against their gods, against their misfortunes, against each other. Such was the faithlessness and heresy of Ostentero, that some turned to once-restricted sources of power, arcane, and malicious. Thus rose amidst the turmoil of the new age of misery its lords who would seek only survival, and , and thusly the destruction of all around them.

(work in progress- will edit later with the rest of it- reviews good or bad are welcome- i'll post a character creation thread after i finish all this exposition- :p thanks for reading!)

end to exposition!

(sooo srry for the ginormous wait!)

The constant struggle for survival prompted the overlords to seek out the cause of their land's malady. They first turned to those wielders of evil and arcane power, masters of men in their own right, for a solution. The black arts, seeking only destruction and defilement, could produce no solution that would not plunge Ostentaro into a deeper darkness. The overlords knew no other source of wisdom beyond their own to tap.

Several decades passed in this ignorance until a expiditionary force of Kinngesi, a large empire of humans ruled by the ruthless Degra Fwarwak, came upon a most unusual sight in their quest to expand Kinngesi's borders. Beyond the last mountain known to the races, sunlight, pure and untainted by black cloud or rising smog from the black swamps, flooded a vast oasis that was filled with lush green foliage, and flowers never before seen. Supposing this was an illusion of some malevolent border tribe, they stuck out against the forest.

It soon became very apparent to the men that they were in fact experiencing something tangible, something very real. As they pushed through the forest, they came upon a glade in which sat a sprawling dome surrounded by various structures that wound up the nearby giant trees, like the pillar's of a castle long-forgotten nature herself would reside in. In hearing no war call, but only the sound of birds, and seeing no one, other than the animals, they found a covered area on the border of the glade and slept the deepest their war-laden lives had ever known.

The men dreamed. In the night, in the forest, mist pervaded and soft music filled each tree, each blade of grass, each moss-covered stone. Blue light from the clear clean waters danced softly along the entire landscape. All was at peace, in the night, in the crips cool air that softly stirred their hair and made light their footstep.

The morning brought them into that pacifying reality, and in their calmness, they knocked upon the wooden gates of the dom, painted with azure symbols they had never before seen. A boy, in his teenage years, answered; he a loose white linen shirt and pants, lined with azure and gold. His cloak and hood were of deep azure and were also rimmed with gold swirls at the tail and neck. But most striking of all, beneath the hood could be discerned two brilliantly luminous blue eyes that seemed to stare into each man's soul.

"Welcome to the Oasis of Meso, goddes of water. We here are its keepers, the Mystics of the Waters, Order of Meso. If you each relinquish your weapons, you may step inside without cause to fear," urged the boy.

For a week the expeditionary unit stayed with the Mystics, asked many questions because of their wisdom, and told them of Ostentaro's plight. The Order's Archbishop was greatly disturbed at this great misfortune and began the search for the cause, assuring the men the the goddess Meso would deliver a solution. However, all was not well.

The leader of the expeditionary force saw within this strange secluded people opportunity for his emperor, and if he should deliver this opportunity, for himself. He believed that if the power of the Order were to be exclusively at the emperor's disposal, then all the peoples of Ostentaro would by want, nay, by need for this power, have to cater to his Emperor, thusly giving the Emperor limitless dominion, and himself a great reward.

And so in the night, he ordered his men to kill every Mystic in the Oasis except one which he would take back to his Emperor. His plot, however, never came to complete fruition. The Mystics wielded great arcane powers and so fended off most of the attacks, and did so, remarkably, without a single soldier. The Order expelled their assailants from their land, and over the mountains with their power, thusly sending the expeditionary force emptyhanded- or so they thought that night.

In the fray of battle, one lone Mystic who had stood against fifteen heavily armed men, had been captured- a baby. The expeditionary force caged him, and brought him to the Emperor. That night when the boy had been taken, the entire Order offered prayers to Meso for his safe return.

The Emperor first did not believe the expeditionary force's leader's tale, and so had him decapitated. He cared nothing for the baby, and was about to dispose of him, when one of his concubines saw his eyes. Into those eyes her spirit rushed, and compassion, and pity, was poured forth. She emplored her master for rights to the child, and he willingly agreed. The name for the child she found in a dream- Mathonwy.

Sixteen years passed. Mathonwy had grown under the kingdom's finest tutorage. But no teacher from this realm was ever as effective as the one that visited his dreams and taught him the waves of his people.

characters

ok! The exposition is over. Races for characters are as follows: be a human or any kind of creature from mythology and folklore from any culture, including, but not limited to, Celtic, Roman, Central American (Aztec, Mayan, etc.), Norse, Native American, African (forgive my ignorance; the only ones I know are Zuni and Zulu), Egyptian, etc. However, this by no means equates to Ostentaro sharing the same cultures as Earth. Contrarywise, rule players are urged to create their own culture/kingdom/tribe/faction/etc.

Classes are open to the particpant's disgression, provided that he or she explains that class.

Thus character creation shouldn't be too terribly difficult, however I have been known to make things far too complicated that they really are; thus, any confuzllement you might have is probably my fault. :) So, if you have any questions, pm me. Thanks a bunch for reading!

Aaron Stark was of the wolf brother clan. his clan could communicate with wolfs the only way you could tell one was by his eyes. Most people thought they were demons but they wern't. Aaron was a master archer that carried a sword at his waist and a bow on his back. His wolf brothers called him eagle eye because he can see things other people cant. Aaron talks to wolfs in his head so nobody else can hear him.

nice!

really cool character boxers!

if it's not too much trouble boxers could you give some stats, name, history, physical features, ability descriptions, etc. which is exemplified by this template that I'll use for my character

Name: Mathonwy
Age: 16
Height: 6'0
Hair: white
Eyes: azure (often luminous)
Race: human
Affiliation: Order of Meso: The Mystics of the Waters
Weapons: Twin wands
Class: mystic

History: you know it already :p it's in the background story already posted

Abilities: strong water-based magic; protective aura that can be manipulated; spiritualism- it comes with being a mystic- (this entails the ability to communicate with magical beings and spirits, being able to affect the spirit/soul of a person in that he can move it out of the body, and can absorb emotion and feeling into his consciousness). A Mystic has empathic abilities (being able to sense, absorb, and/or dispel emotion and feeling).
Note: Mathonwy has all these, but is only at an apprentice level as he is young and can be tutored only when in a dream state.

Ideas for classes just in case that is keeping people from posting: sphinxes, unicorns, pegasi, chimera, gryphons, werewolves, vampires, necromancers, mages, undead, sirens, faeries, ogres, orks, elves, nymphs, beast-tamers, rangers, centaurs, minotaurs, sorceress, summoner, etc. et.c

 common people plz plz plz plz post charaters!

there's a faerie called a Glaistig; it's a beautiful, seductive water faerie that lures men to dance with her and then feeds like a vampire on their , but can be benign and look after the elderly or children...she also has the body of a goat (which she hhides under a green dress); however, if you choose to use this faerie, we can skip the goat part! ;)

a vamp/fae combo is essentially the same thing, so whichever you prefer is just fine! :) thanks!

((Though it would be nice to get thing going and give a intro to my char))

The great metal doors swung open and a group of men dressed in armor walked in, they all had black scaled armor except one in front of the group for he had a red scaled armor and their helmets were shaped like those of a dragon, they walked down towrd a great throne bed were two big and ancient dragons lay. The group stopped at the feet of throne bed and all fell down on one knee "What is your biding Lord Master?" the one in red asked.
One of dragons lifted its massive head and looked at the group "Ah Astador so nice that you have come" it said and sweepts its gaze over the group.
"I live and serve you my lady Belldanti" Astador said and bowed his head.
"Have you heard about the Ordo Meso?" the othere dragon asked and lifted its head.
"Only what our schoolers had told about it and that very little, lord Heruer" Astador admited.

The audience lasted for several hours and at last Astador and his group of Dragon Guard waslked out from the throne room and into the waste caves were dragons and forsaken lived. Astador walked out and looked down into the biggest vale, farm land was all around and some few farmers huts was seen in the middel of the sea of weat and grain. Forsakens lived in the caves and had built them self a city in one of the great ones and the vales they used to grow their own food.
"Astador do you think its time for a new trip to the outside world?" one of the black scaled warriors asked.
Astador hissed a replai that was a yes, for he wasent happy about the orders but he was not foolish to question them.

The great stone hall was silent, save for the quiet sound of Zalika's pacing. Her delicate silver wings fluttered slightly as she paced, but she didn't notice. She clutched a tiny black diamond pendant in her pale hands, the last link to her parents. Someone had once said it was a key of some sort, but what it unlocked, she didn't know.
Where were they? Her father, a vampire, should be there with her, or with his own kind. Her fairy mother should be with her as well, or with the other fairies. But neither were where they should've been. How a fairy and a vampire managed to fall in love was beyond her, but Zalika was sure it had been their downfall. But they were still alive. She just knew it.
And she had to find them. She could send someone else to find them. They'd obey her without question. That would be easy, and much less perilous on her part. But they might never return, and then where would she be? And they wouldn't know where to look, either. No, she had to do this herself.

Kuillia glid smoothly through the air. He was conscious of how his body adapted to the strains of flying far: how he had instinctively lost appetite, making sure that he flew lighter on an empty stomach; how his feathers lay down smooth as the glorious mistrals plied them; and how even his very breath slowed, though the air up here was thinner, for by some miracle of nature it saved him energy though it made him sluggish. For it was just gliding: the secret of the roc's flight was not to fight the air but to be one with it, and to be swept along to wherever the heart desired.

But there was more to his slowed breathing: it was because he hated the air. He had been very young once, and it was then that he had smelled fresh air. Pure, clean nothingness that yet gave the body life. Not this - not a stagnantly choked, half-rotting thing. Why was the air dying?

He wondered, and wondered, his mind locked on the idea (for it was too feeble to change the topic right now) while his body glid away towards the Great Citadel.
