We are important. Why do you think Jesus died for us? We have choice and He hopes we make the right choice and chose life. He chose to die for us so we could make the choice to be the chosen ones. He elected to make the way to let us elect to accept eternal life.
You have made up an unbiblical theology.

Well if I chose to get saved that is a choice. If I elect to get saved that is a choice.
Okay. This view is utterly ridiculous and not worth further engagement.

I'm saving these.
And Calvinist face claims of making up definitions for ALL and WORLD because we try to use them in context. This stuff is mind-boggling asinine.

Who cares?
Well, at the time of Christ it was very important. So the original readers would have understood the groom/bride connection in a way that you don't seem to grasp.

So? What has that got to do with choice and salvation? Not sure why playing a little game of 'guess who proposes' is supposed to be either relative or profound? I notice the post I responded to didn't mention 'in the time of Christ' either. Are you being asinine?

I wouldn't call that a particularly Reformed view of the verse.
"Believe, be saved, and have eternal life" is 100% Reform! Before the Reform, they where talking about Justification--which is just as stupid! The Scriptures have always been about LIFE, and that more abundant!

So your argument against Calvinism is....?
The theology of Calvinism has NO bases, NOT one word of it, in the autographed language written by the Apostles and writers of the NT. 5 point Calvinism is more about Thomas Beza than the later written works of Calvin. John Calvin himself was ignorant of the original languages and based his entire theology on the Latin like everybody else did in his time. And now I argue the points based on the autographed language and you argue back based on an English bible which is a Protestant book that is not Scripture! And please don't blame the results on the "Holy Spirit".

Not sure what you are quibbling about, but since it seems off topic, guess it doesn't matter. Or does this relate to something Calvinist? My opinion is that a translation can be also inspired. If it doesn't seem to fit what you like in the Greek, maybe it is better. Be happy.
Except for "Be happy" that is out there! There is no such thing as a "Holy Spirit" translation: not the Latin Vulgate--not the King James Version! God's Word was given to us from Hebrew to Aramaic to koinE Greek and translated into English. NEVER take those words backwards to explain Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew! All these autographed languages are about LIVE! Do you know what 'LIVE' spelled backwards is?

It is important to understand how the original readers would have understood the scriptures. You can't look at the groom/bride relationship that's pictured in scripture and impose modern traditions onto it.

Okay. When you make an actual argument, let me know.

I'm certain that people also understood what choosing means

Thanks for the tip. I'll get busy tearing every page from my Bible that mentions faith or justification. I'll leave the ones that mention, "life", though.
