I don't think many anti-rcc folks would be a fan of that second one. it has the evil word catholic in it.
Most people know that the word there the doesn't refer to the Roman Catholic Church; but for those folks who are concerned, such as the conservative Lutherans, it has become "And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church."
Interesting. Although there's a certain logic to it, I've never before heard anyone say that.Around here folks could get upset about the word "Apostolic" ... as it tends to refer to United Pentecostals and similar.
The general attitude is quite prevalent all over most of Florida. "Apostolic" kind of equates to Nazarene, hair buns, no makeup, and ankle length dresses..................... and, of course, strict legalism.Interesting. It must be a Florida thing from where Kylissa and Willie both hail. What comes to mind for me is AS and that's what most would believe to be the opposite. AS refers me to the succession of the teaching in the bible. What the creed is actually about. That is of course true, but I've still never heard of anyone saying that the word Apostolic in the Creed sounds like it refers to this particular group. Possibly it is so in Florida, though.

As to everything else, I would hope we can have peace in this one thread that ought to unite us.
I think that many people, when they see either of those words, catholic or Apostolic, their minds often go directly to both the Catholic church, and also to the other extreme of Fundamentalist Bible Thumpers.

Ok, I'm drawing a blank. What is "AS"?It must be a Florida thing from where Kylissa and Willie both hail. What comes to mind for me is AS and that's what most would believe to be the opposite. AS refers me to the succession of the teaching in the bible. What the creed is actually about.

It doesn't stipulate whether those agreeing to the creed are or not. The apostolic/catholic church is a term that doesn't define/divide individuals or groups.I got it.... Apostolic Succession? But is that what the Creed is referring to?
I got it.... Apostolic Succession? But is that what the Creed is referring to? I mean, Catholics think they can claim that, but Protestant churches sure can't.

For myself, I think I'll just keep it the way it was written, and understand what both catholic and apostolic mean.
But I know people who refuse to recite the Nicene Creed because of those words.
The vineyard movement! I heard much about it when I first joined cf.You would love one of my favorite books, The Quest for The Radical Middle, by Bill Jackson. A fantastic read.
In certain situations, perhaps, but I'd hope that when they are reciting the Nicene Creed as part of the liturgy (in churches like mine and Kylissa's and some others I mentioned) that they wouldn't think that. Or at least that it would be rare.
Oh...You weren't joking?
