Good question.
If you wanted to do a lot of disruption , to cause chaos, to try to increase your power someplace;
and if you could just get someone else to go do this for you, without even paying them to, just by tricking them into it,
so you wouldn't have to risk anything yourself - you could even try to end up looking like the "good guy" later (if people didn't find out you were behind it) ...
wouldn't you do that ?
Get someone else to do the dirty work ?

I understand the bitterness that the Jews feel for their having that persecution in their history. But allowing it to influence them to become paranoid to the point of showing blatant hostility to any non-Jew showing honest interest in their religion and in their synagogue is going much too far.

It's indeed difficult to criticize the Jewish religion without actually criticizing the Jewish people, whose Jewishness is largely derived from the Jewish religion.

Finally, I don't think there's some magic antisemitic gene floating around, and that Europeans are gradually shifting their phobias over to Muslims.

They have a higher degree of genetic purity than other ethnic groups have. The Bible says that God will preserve 12,000 from each tribe for a total of 144,000 that will be pure at the end of this age.

God creates, and allows, calamity, for his purposes. At the same time that 6 million Jews perished 50+ million who weren't Jews also perished in horrible ways.

God declared that he would "scatter" the Jews, and "draw the sword out after them". God's 'sword', in the person of Hitler, caught up with them in a big way.
