  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now Split, I'm sure AV will have a perfectly reasonable explanation.

After all he did point out this was only his opinion.

I suspect it is because Americans are really good engineers. And we have that "Git-up-n-go" attitude that will allow us to build a giant boat just large enough to hold all animal genera or species by ourselves.

Of course, being good Americans, we will overcharge God and there will be significant scheduling over-runs, but if God wants the job done right with only a few post-production problems, he'll hold off on the rains.

What? Noah forgot to put a propulsion system on board? Well, you will note that God never put that in the spec. So who's to blame?

And you guys think you don't look silly and immature to us.

Oh, well, David had a better word.

And it's always nice to be critiqued by someone who isn't an authority.

And just FYI, your assertion that I add to the Word of God "whatever I want" was a cheap shot.
LOL! I never claimed to be an "authority."

My assertion that you add to the Word of God is based on my years of experience watching you do just that. You are the one that keeps hitting the rest of us over the head with "The Inerrant Word of God." I have tried repeatedly to get you to admit that it is not "The Inerrant Word of God," but your fallible interpretation of what you believe is "The Inerrant Word of God," to little avail. Every time you provide us with one more example of how you freely interpret scripture the way you (a fallible human) think is best, I will bring this point up again.

And since no one is apparently really sure what "Gopher wood" is, I don't see anything in your two quotes that would support a North American origin for Noah.

Of course not.

These two references, in my opinion, give credence to my idea that Noah lived in the United States.
This is when an atheist is entitled to cry OH MY GOD!

Because there is a Hebrew word nobody understands you assume that "gopher wood" must have something to do with North American rodents? By the way, an European relative of your New World gophers (Spermophilus citellus, souslik or European ground squirrel) can also be called a gopher. Does that imply, then, that Noah came from Europe?

Note:

Pitch is not just from the Pitch Pine but is a general term including not only plant resins but more commonly petroleum bitumen.

Here's an interesting quote:

I highlighted the important part in case you missed it.

And since no one is apparently really sure what "Gopher wood" is, I don't see anything in your two quotes that would support a North American origin for Noah.
In case you haven't bothered to find out, gopher has an American derivation, so in all likelihood Noah was American.

Gopher can be spelt (spelled) gofer and here is a standard dictionary reference to it:

gofer
1956, Amer.Eng. coinage from go for (coffee, spare parts, etc.), with a pun on gopher.

It probably should say: 'so while Noah and his oldest sons built the boat, he had his youngest son Japheth gopher wood'.

And 'I know a' boat builder is the original derivation of 'Noah' boat builder.

His interpretation of the Bible really is only a tiny part of the problem. The fact that he literally makes up whole new chapters - God embeds age, Noah lives in North America, Jesus controls the strong nuclear force etc. - is, IMHO, a far greater cause for concern.

Which word in my answer was Hebrew, Naraoia? I don't even know how to speak Hebrew, and I don't speak in tongues.

If there's a Hebrew word you don't understand, what does that have to do with me?

"Of course not" what? Are you just trying to reiterate that it's simply your opinion and we therefore *won't* find any evidence?
And all that after stating that his Bible quotes "give credence" to his American Noah theory  Be careful, people. AV might be the Omnipotent God. He definitely has the logical inconsistency required for omnipotence :ebil:

OK, lets simplify this, suppose in the Universe there are just the three of us, you MrGoodBytes, me Mork, and Jesus.

I don't control the strong force. I note you didn't counter what AV1611VET said by claiming you did, so that leaves Jesus controlling the strong force. QED

Gopher. See link. Well, it's not really true that nobody understands it, but what people who know Hebrew understand has nothing to do with the USA.

If I were you, I'd see if this would get published in AiG's Answers Magazine.

And in a randomized control trial of several hefty men and things that might have been men, opening jam jars where the jam had dried in the grooves of the lid, the most commonly heard sound was 'Jesus Christ!' (very loud)

Game, sex and match.
