  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What about ancient entish...though it might take me some time to say something.;)
That would be pretty awesome.

Found this website and thought some here might enjoy looking at it... basically it transcribes words/phrases/paragraphs into hobbit runes, dwarvish runes or Feanorian Tengwar. ^_^
Now that I have looked at the transcriber a bit more, I have a few more comments on it. First, Runes, both Cirth and Tengwar are phonetic. Thus, you cannot simply type something in and have it be perfect. Take the name "Spencer" for instance. The "c" is soft, and thus the rune for representing this would be the same as the one for "s", not "k."(Since there is no rune or Tengwar for "c").
However, you have to differentiate this for the transcriber (putting in "Spenser" instead), because it will not do so on its own.
Several other problems I noticed. First, it does not give you the option for what Tengwar mode you want used (if that doesn't make sense to you, ask me.) Thus, even if you type in something in English to be transcribed, the right mode will not be used.
Second, take a look at this sample: http://derhobbit-film.de/rune/runes.php?fsize=50&write=ff0000&back=000000&font=2&text=Spenser
That is the Tengwar transcription of "Spenser." Those two "S's" are the things I have a problem with. first off, those Tengwar are not the correct symbols for "S," they are for "Z" or "ss." Second, that very first one should only be turned upside down like it is if it has a Tehta on top of it.
Third, take a look at this sample: http://derhobbit-film.de/rune/runes.php?fsize=50&write=ff0000&back=000000&font=2&text=Kaimelar
The letter used for "k" is debatable. I always learned that one as the letter for "kw" more like a "q."
The next problem is that the "ai" was no transcribed correctly. There is actually a separate setup for double vowels like that in the case that this is in. Instead, this website simply put an "a" in and left out the "i." Makes me wonder if it is not programmed to insert double vowels.
Also, and I can't remember right off hand, but that might be the wrong rune for "r" since there are two of them with different placings depending on their use.

All in all, I have to say, it is a good translator and a great website. However, the translator could easily lead those astray who do not know what they are doing (as far as what something is supposed to look like).

Namarie, my friends.

I don't think it's meant to be a definitive reference of Elvish - it just transcribes (roughly - there are many variants not included, as pointed out above) a word/ phrase/ name (etc) into the "alphabets".

Also, re colour translation:
Unfortunately, no, I don't know the word for purple, or if it were ever created. I suppose, depending upon the context, you could always say "plum-colored." The word for "plum" is "pio."
I found this through "Ardalambion" - it lists several purple flowers (wisteria, violet) with the prefix "heli" - would that possibly be the Quenya word for purple? Or mauve/violet/lavender/lilac/etc...?

Wormie my sister is facinated with the Lord of the Rings. One of the websites in this post suggested by u I showed her and she added it to her favourites. I wonder if we could all learn Elvish but then put it into dictionarys so that means all LOTR fans could read it and speak Elvish to their friends. I dont know Elvish. but we should all call ppl by their elvish names for example Hazel Angel is Eärwen Ancalimë. How I figured it out is this website.

http://www.chriswetherell.com/elf/

Hope it helps to discover ur Elvish name.

Ah yes, the wetherell name generator. Unfortunately, the website does say that the names it generates for you are not a direct translation of your name, they're just elvish or elvish-sounding names. If you like I could see if I could translate your name into elvish... then, by all means, I will address you with it. ^_^

From what I've found, the Elvish (Quenyan) word for hazel: kottule; the word for angel is ainu. The feminine denotation (ending) is: më Together they would be: Kottulainumë. I'm happy to call you that...

(btw, if anyone's wondering, it's pronounced cot-too-lie-noo-may) ^_^ I'm sure Morv will let me know if I'm wrong... >___> :sorry:

Now, the real test of geekness. Can you translate Kal Verd into Quenyan? It's Mando'a.
If you tell me what it means, I can. Or at least, I can try... >__>

I CAN translate your CF handle - ráca = wolf; mo = masculine suffix; therefore - rácamo = wolfman (I don't think elvish names were succeeded by numbers... to my knowledge). :)

Cool, and I didn't think it would be possible to translate across lines of fiction hehe Kal Verd is Mando'a for Blade Warrior, if I am remembering correctly.
