    Evidently asteroids are fragile too.

And if an asteroid hit the earth (not the other way around), are they saying the earth is stationary in space?

    Certainly when going that fast.

two moving objects can collide...one does not have to be stationary...

The first example that pops in my head is a baseball bat and a pitched baseball...neither are stationary when they collide...

OK...after reading the article, I have two questions. How on earth did any life survive that? and why weren't all the living things (including dinosaur bones) incinerated instantly?

From what I can remember the tsunamis and firestorms didn't affect the whole globe. It was the debris that the impact threw into the atmosphere which blocked out the sunlight -preventing photosynthesis with catastrophic effects on the food chain.

Obviously some plants could survive and animals that could eat seeds, insects roots etc.

    * I'm just recalling the program here, I'm sure google would yield a more accurate explanation.

If it only affected part of the world, then why were all the dinosaurs killed?

...and assuming that the problem was lack of sunlight so all the plants that the dinosaurs would have eaten died, then how did "some" plants survive without any sunlight?

    The asteroid.

    It was a global flood.

A day came that the dinosaurs died.

IF an asteroid did hit the earth, I'm sure it made a mess, but Adam probably didn't even know about it; living thousands of miles away.

And for the record, I neither watched the video, nor read the article; but I guess I'll have to, so I can pick it apart.

And if I see it says an asteroid "hit the earth," you guys are gonna get a taste of your own medicine about a stationary earth.

And I'll be interested to see how you take it.

If, on the other hand, it says "collided with the earth," you're off the hook.

A dinosaur just flew past my window: so that article had better be specific.

Why would you discuss a topic without reading or watching at least one of the referenced articles since they were what this thread is about.....

Personally, I have seen a moving bat HIT a moving baseball...it wasn't just a collision....

There's no reason to assume, we can calculate the effects of such an impact.

    In answer to your questions:

    1. The atmospheric effects were global.
    2. Plants can become dormant, seeds can survive

BTW. I am not putting myself forward as an expert on the subject. I'm sure better answers can be found online.

So.. why did all the dinosaurs drown, then? Including those that lived in water.

AV loves playing those word games. In his day, he made a great many threads about how people say that "the sun rises" instead of "the horizon rotates beneath the sun". It is always great fun for everyone involved.

We are discussing an asteroid impact 66 million years ago. The program was partly about the drilling rig collecting and analysing core samples of the peak ring of the impact site. If you are denying such an impact occured I have no wish to discuss it any further with you.

Because I'm familiar with almost all ... if not all ... of the rhetoric that science puts out to dupe the common man.

BUT, you make a good point ... and I'll take a look at the article in a bit.

    Then I'll tear it apart.
