Deuteronomy 17 verse 1

Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the Lord thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness: for that is an abomination unto the Lord thy God.

Deuteronomy 17 verse 1

God says that the sacrifice has to pure and not malformed.

It is interesting to me the qualities of a King listed. Among them: 20 a "and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites." A humble King. The humblest King was the King of Kings.

Amen! The TRUE qualities of a TRUE King.

Verse 1 really caught my attention with the word "evilflavouredness"....

i'm thinkin' it maybe means "spoiled" or "old"? That Is an abominable insult....

...the commentary is helpful....there must've been idolatry all around and it must've been a HUGE influence in all the surrounding countries and Israel had to KEEP their eyes on God to not get caught up with it.....

Looking at the other versions of the Bible, I believe you're correct, it means old or defective in some way. I tried doing a Google search for a defination of the word and came up empty-handed. Wish I could be more help.

The similarities between young Israel and my country are uncanny - Mine is only a young country too - Love for idolatry and the occult, risk of falling away from God... Mind you I think my country is at a greater danger of this than young Israel... It makes me feel a certain kinship with the people who lived in Biblical Israel. How a person might have been thankful for God's strict penalties for not obeying His commands because it was for the greater good in His chosen people. God asks us to make some tough choices sometimes but it's for OUR greater good.

Deuteronomy Chapter 18 verse 1

The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inhertance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his inheritance.

Deuteronomy 18 verse 1

God wanted the priests and Levites to live through donations to the church.

bcmom I think you have a great deal to be proud about regarding your country Canada. Yours is a young beautiful country with so much potential to get things right.

I live in Britain and although I love my country we seem to have made such a mess of everything in Britain. I believe that young people are the flower of the nation.

But in Britain we have no jobs or houses for the young gereration. I believe it is the duty of all Christians to help the young generation to make a good start in life.

I love my country. One of the many things I love about my country is the right to critique it without fear of persecution or prosecution.
I agree our children are our future.
Having said that, I believe this discussion is best held elsewhere as this is a Bible study, not a political debate.
Thanks for your input.
God bless.

bcmon I am surprised that you dont agree the giving children a good start in life is a basic Christian value.

You suggest that looking after children properly is just politics and nothing to do with being a good Christian.

The Bible Says

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Timothy 5 verse 8

Deuteronomy 19 verse 21

And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Deuteronomy 19 verse 21

bcmom this is what the Bible says. I would be interested to know if you support life for life.

In the European Union the death penalty has been make illegal in all member states. This is in direct contradiction of the Bible teaching above. This is an anti Christian law.

If you believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God then one might argue that you cannot be a Christian if you dont support the death penalty.

I get my views from the Bible. If anyone thinks that I have misunderstood the scriptures then I would be very interest to hear their views.

bcmom in my experience the Christians that I know all love their country. There is nothing anti Christain about being patriotic. I dont believe that any Christian should feel ashamed to say that they love their country.

The Bible Says

Servants obey in all things your masters.

Colossians 3 verse 22

The Bible encourages us to support our leaders in a good heart. There is nothing in the Bible that suggests that we should not love our country.

Looking at Chapter 18....verse 2, this is PHENOMENAL!!!!! God says that the Levites have no inheritance with their brethren, for HE is their inheritance. That's deeeep.

Now on to chapter 19...

verse 8 really caught my eye...it reminds me of what Jabez prayed for:

Deuteronomy 19:8 -"And if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;"

I Chronicles 4:10 -" And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, If thou wilt bless me indeed, and enlarge my coasts, and if thine hand be with me, and thou wilt cause me to
be delivered from evil, that I be not hurt. And God granted the thing that he
asked."

Thank you for the commentary on chapter 19.....God really was just, wasn't He. He provided sure safety so that an innocent person would not be unjustly convicted of something he never intended to cause, like an accident..yet God did not provide a hiding place or a place of refuge for someone guilty of murder who fully intended to commit it.
