  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Kings Chapter 6

Soloman built the Temple in Jerusalem and it took seven years.

And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cheruims, so that the wing of one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst if the house.

And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.

And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.
Verse 30

(A cherubim is an angel)

That's a lots o' gold....

Brinny,

I think we can safely say that no expense was spared by Solomon when he built the Temple in Jerusalem.

I believe he set out to create one of the wonders of the world.

Solomon wanted the fame and majesty of this fabulous Temple in Jerusalem to last for all time.

Brinny here is one of my favourite quotations about Solomon.

Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and behold, the half was not told to me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.

This was said by the Queen of Sheba in Chapter 10 verse 7.

1 Kings Chapter 7

In Chapter 7 Solomon built his own house. It was a marvelous house and similar in quality to the Temple in Jerusalem.

The Temple in Jerusalem was full of gold. The things of gold included the altar, a table, 10 candlesticks, flowers, lamps, tongs, bowls, spoons and the hinges on the doors.

It must've been a sight to behold at that time....

Brinny,

Yes Brinny if we closed our eyes and dreamed of the most marvelous building that we could possible imagine, it would be more wonderful than that. The Temple in Jerusalem was one of the greatest wonders of the world.

Brinny,

Because of Solomon's great wisdom he had peace on all his borders. Israel prospered as never before and the wealth of Solomon grew.

David and his Captain of the Host Joab spent all their lives fighting wars. Although they were very successful and I cannot find any occasion where Joab lost a battle, they wasted lives and treasure on endless conflict with their neighbours.

Up to this point in the story Solomon has had total peace. This allowed the nation of Israel to settle down and become wealthy.

This was in fact the golden age of the state of Israel.

Solomon must've been the richest man in the world.....

Brinny,

Yes Brinny that may be. We dont talk about Solomon much because he did not do much in the way of battles and victories.

But what Solomon brought was far better.

What Solomon brought brought was quiet, peace and prosperity.

1 Kings Chapter 8

King Solomon brings the ark to the new Temple in Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord.
Verse 10

For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.
Verse 11

Then Solomon dedicates the Temple in Jerusalem with a long prayer.

what does that mean, i wonder, that there was no spirit left in her:

5 And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the Lord; there was no more spirit in her.

Brinny,

It is a strange turn of phrase but I think it just means that the Queen of Sheba was very impressed.
