  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Joab killed a traitorous criminal who clearly sought to assassinate the king. Joab did his job.

Brinny,

Yes you are right Joab did his job regards Absalom. King David would not have been in a position to criticise Joab for killing the man leading the rebellion. Nevertheless David loved his son Absalom and waited his time to get revenge against Joab. I believe that Joab had got old and weak over the years assuming that Joab was a similar age to David.

King David's judgments were skewed at times....

He was an indulgent father, and it interfered with the upbringing of his sons, and in his own judgment towards them.

Brinny,

You are right that King David was too indulgent towards his sons.

When Amnon raped this half sister Tamar, King David did nothing.
2 Samuel 13 verse 14

David was an indulgent father. That is a huge blot against him.

He should've never sought to kill Joab. Joab should've had a worthy and blessed retirement.

Brinny,

As captain of the host Joab had won all King David's battles for him.

I dont believe that Joab ever lost a single battle.

Yes Joab deserved a worthy retirement in his old age as a faithful old soldier.

YES, he did. It was shameful what David did to Joab after all of his loyal service. And soldier or officer worth his salt would've done the same to Absalom, and even sooner than that. David had done lost his mind as far as possessing good judgment and wisdom for his kingdom and people. He had become a liability, and was causing bad morale everywhere.

It was a wise thing to ask God for wisdom above anything else. God must've been pleased with Solomon for asking for wisdom rather than riches, etc. And God added on the riches, etc. when He granted Solomon wisdom.

Brinny,

Yes God was very pleased with Solomon and in the next Chapter, Chapter 4 everything is going well for Solomon.

1 Kings Chapter 4

Chapter 4 tells us that everything is going well for Solomon. The land of Israel has peace and prosperity along all its borders. At least part of this success can be put down to the power of Solomons wisdom.

1 Kings Chapter 4

Solomom spoke 3,000 proverbs
Verse 32

Solomon wrote 1005 songs.
Verse 32

People visited Solomon from all around, as the news of his wisdom spread to neighbouring countries.
Verse 34

Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and maknig merry.
Verse 20

And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
Verse 21

1 Kings Chapter 5

And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
Verse 7

And Hiram sent to Solomon saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concering timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
Verse 8

This is a lovely chapter Solomon is creating friends with all his neighbours.

Isn't it one of the seven wonders of the world?

Brinny,

There was a list made once called the seven wonders of the ancient world.

It was just one persons choice. The temple was not on that list.

Two that were on the list were the pyramids and the hanging gardens of Babylon. Most of the places on the list were very obscure and most people had never heard of those places.

But in all other respects the Temple in Jerusalem was one of the great wonders of the world.

One of the original mighty foundation walls still remains and Jews pray there all the time.
