  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

From what i understand (explained by a Bible teacher i listen to), the Israelites knew better than to touch the ark, and thus, God held them accountable, even more accountable than the Philistines who had touched all over the ark and treated it all kinds of ways.

Brinny,

If the Queen of England tripped and was falling should you grab her. You would be in trouble either way. It is bad protocol for anyone to deliberately touch the Queen even in a friendly way.

I believe there was a protocol for moving the ark and putting it on a cart was not correct so I was told.

2 Samuel Chapter 6 verse 9

David was afraid to bring the arc of God into the city after the death of Uzzsah. It was left in a house outside the city for three months.

God blessed the house where the ark had rested. David then thought it was safe to bring the arc into the city.

David danced as the ark came into the city. It says that David danced with all his might.

David's wife Michal, Saul's daughter, saw David dancing and dispised him for it in her heart.

When David got home, his wife Michal criticised him for all the dancing in public.

Because of that criticism his wife Michal had no more children.

EXACTLY. There HAD to be a protocol. And the Israelites, of all people should've never disregarded it or been careless about it.

This possibly ties in with how far from God or the complete absence of the "fear of God" they had drifted from.

It's very "telling" about Michal's heart for God in her reaction to David's dancing before the Lord...as if David's God literally turned her stomach and disgusted her, thus reaction to David.

Brinny,

That Michal seems like a nasty piece of work.
I wonder if she inherited it from here father's side.

LOL! Quite possibly. It was her father who "gave" her to David, right?

Yes Brinny it was Saul that gave Michal to David as a wife.

The bride price was that David had to go and collect a hundred foreskins from the Philistines.
1 Samuel 18 verse 25

Saul had hoped that David would be killed collecting the foreskins. But the task was very easy for David and he doubled it and gave Saul 200 Philisitine foreskins as the dowry for Michal.

Michael was a nasty piece of work.
They do say like father like son, or daughter in this case.

It's amaaaaaazing that Jonathan was as he was, having a father like Saul.....Jonathan was a TRUE friend to David and a man of integrity and character.

Yes you are correct Brinny. Jonathan the son of Saul was a wonderful man.

Jonathan would have made a very good king. But that was not God's plan.

God had chosen David to be the next king of Israel. God had great plans for David.

2 Samuel Chapter 8

The whole of Chapter 8 is a series of battles with the enemies of Isreal.

There is no record of David losing any battles.

It is just an endless list of victories by David against his enemies on every side.

David subdued all his ememies and took back all the land that had been lost over the years to invaders.

And the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.

you gots to admit, da Syrians weren't tooo shmart...hadn't they HEARD about David?

5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

And HERE is a clue as to why David had such victory (God had David's back)

14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

2 Samuel Chapter 4

The Story of Mephibosheth

Saul had a son called Jonathan. Jonathan had a son called Mephibosheth.

News spread that Saul and his sons had been killed by the Philistines.

The army of Israel was defeated and the Philistines were invading Israel.

When the nurse of Mephibosheth heard the news she panicked and ran.

As she fled in fear of the approaching Philistines she dropped the child.

In the fall the feet of Mephibosheth were damaged.

For the rest of his life Mephibosheth had lame feet.

2 Samuel 4 verse 4

In my opinion in theory at least Mephibosheth had a claim to the throne of Israel.
Mephibosheth would have been Saul's grandson.

2 Samuel Chapter 9

In Chapter 8 King David finds out about Mephibosheth and makes him a rich man.

2 Samuel Chapter 10

As in Chapter 8 David continues to destroy all the enemies of Israel.

Joab is the captain of the host for Israel. Joab devises a plan to defeat an alliance of forces against Israel. Central to this alliance against Isreal were the armies of the Syrians and the children of Ammon.

The army of King David had two further victories against the Syrians and the children of Ammon.

David and Bathsheba

With all his wives an concubines David wanted more.

Bathsheba deliberately caught Davids eye by washing on her roof.

David was tempted and invited her over, and she fell with child.

Her husband Uriah would not have sex with his wife while the battle raged out of loyalty to his men.

David said to Joab that he should send Uriah into the heat of the battle then retire from him so that he should be killed.

David then married Bathsheba. But God was not pleased.
