  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, it looks like that's what verse 20 means.......

however there's something more treacherous than even the Philistines......

It would not stand up in court. I charge you with willfully eating some honey. And the prosecution is demanding the death penalty. Yes Brinny this King Saul definitely has a flawed character.

...makes ya' wonder if God chose Saul for a specific reason to be king.....God had already said that the Israelites had sinned grievously by rejecting God as their KING and requesting an earthly king....

It seems that God gave the people what they wanted, and that's why Saul was chosen....reminds me of the time in the desert when the people said they were sick of the manna and requested meat and God sent them quail and HE said they'd eat so much of it, it would be coming out of their noses, and it would be a curse to them. And it was.

I Samuel Chapter 15

Then came the word of the Lord to Samuel saying.
It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king.

Chapter 15 verse 10

Brinny

Here is a difficult question for you. Christians believe that God knows the future.

But in verse 10 God is showing regret that Saul was chosen to be the king of Israel.

It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king.
Chapter 15 verse 10

And the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
Chapter 15 verse 35.

God was grieved with the Israelites blatant rejection of God and asking for an earthly king. He already knew that Saul was a disaster in the making and that no good thing would come from him, and that he would drag Israel through the dregs till the day he died.

However, Saul highlighted the disastrous decision the Israelites made in rejecting God and asking for an earthly king. Consequently the Israelites reaped what they sowed.

I Samuel Chapter 16

Brinny chapter 16 is quite exciting. God has rejected Saul and wants David anointed to be the next king. But Samuel is terrified that Saul will kill them both if he finds out. So Samuel goes on a secret mission telling everyone else a different story.

An evil spirit from God troubled Saul. And a bit of harp playing was recommended to lift his mood. David was called to play the harp for Saul and lift hm out of deep his dark moods.

(Next chapter is the story of David and Goliath)

Yes, chapter 16 is riveting.....it's like watching a movie as event after event unfolds....

Brinny

Yes Saul is unstable. In chapter 16 Samuel is afraid for his life when God tells him to anoint David and the future king.

(Chapter 17 is the story of David and Goliath)

THERE it is!!! One of me fav'rite testimonies of David's character and his faith and belief in knowing that GOD had his back and that GOD would win this for him...in essence, it's GOD Who guided that fatal stone that brought Goliath down like a redwood tree.
