  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

sooooooo...he was a "prophet", but an evil one?

I'm just wonderin' why he had it in for the man of God?

If one will lie and say God said then they probably dont believe when others say it...so he may have not been against him just thought it could benifit his house to have the man of God there

He didn't believe in God then, nor did he have a Godly fear of the Lord. He tricked the man of God. He thought the man of God at his house would bring him "luck"?

Just what kind of prophet was this?

to do these things, he was nothing of God. With his believing in "luck" he was certainly not of God, for he's giving tribute to anything other than God.

That chapter was kinda hard to follow. The only thing that really stood out for me was the lying from the old prophet.

you mean regarding the man of God...yes, that is tragically true....

i just can't, fer the life of me, figure out why oh why he listened to that old prophet....

For myself Ive spent many hours wondering why I listened to myself with out consulting God first....sometimes the world logic seams reasonable till its to late

The man of God slipped up majorly, then. He forsook God majorly. Yet the one who is despicable here is the old prophet who deliberately contrived a lie to trick the man of God.

Why did he want his bones buried with the man of God's bones?

LOL! I'm just sorta' thinkin' out loud here.....

this chapter disturbed me...

Yes if you take how this all started when a king instead of seeking advice listened to his friends spliting a kingdom and now leading to idolatry and the death of a prophet...seems God is trying to warn us about who we listen to

Yes Rick357 the moral of this story is that we should all be careful who we take advice from. Rohoboam followed the bad advice of his young friends.

*[[1Ki 13:20-22]] KJV* %v 20% And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back: %v 21% And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee, %v 22% But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

We can ignore Kings easy enough but we must also ignore men of God when the Lord has spoken to us....
Paul was set to go to Jerusalem no matter the prophecy of several(which were true)others Paul could not be swayed.
Or Peter who Jesus had just encouraged that God had revealed to him who Jesus was found himself rebuked as an advesary that desired the things of men not God when Peter tried to persuade him not to go to Jerusalem.

Yes Rick357 the holy man should have listened to what God had told him to do. He should not have let himself be led astry by the old prophet who had lied to him.

These two kings both went into and lead their people into idolatry by trying to keep what was freely imparted to them by the Lord. We see their error and the disasterous result...but do we see that trying to keep the grace freely given to us has similar results.

Rick357 the Children of Israel were the chosen people. While they followed the teaching of God all went well. It was when they turned to idols under Jeroboam and Rehoboam that things went wrong.

Re: 1 Kings 14

Jeroboam had a lotta nerve, sending his wife to the prophet, under guise, didn't he? he thought God would not know that?

Also interesting to note that those who claim their idols are equal to God...dont seek their idols power when things get real.
