  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

BBless yer dad's dear heart, actually, there are varying ways to pronounce Deborah. God bless you and your precious mom.

Brinny

My father was a very religious man. He read his Bible every day. He was a Sunday School teacher all his life. He was also a lay preacher when the opportunity arose.

It just made us laugh that everyone said DEB-ER-RAH.

And my Dad always said DEB-BOR-RAH.
And he would not change.

Judges 6

I will put a fleece of wool in the floor.

Judges 6 verse 37

Gideon put out a fleece to see if God would support Israel in a war with the Midianites.

YES was to be the fleece being wet, and the ground beside being dry.

But as a check YES the next day was the fleece being dry, and the ground
wet.

Through this test Gideon knew that God would lead the Israelites to victory over the Midianites. Judges 6:37

THERE he is!!!! Gideon!!!!! A dear dear man of God, who was just mindin' his own business, when the Angel of the Lord came on the scene. Gideon had NO IDEA what was gonna come into his life right then, but God intended to get his attention. God was gonna use him MIGHTILY. He even called Gideon a "mighty man of valour". AWESOME!

11 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

Judges 7 verse 3

And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and ther remained ten thousand.

Judges 7 verse 6

And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth was 300.

Judges 7 verse 7

By the 300 men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand.

The victory over the Midianites was a miracle by God.
The fact that the army was only 300 men proved very clearly that it was a miracle.

Re: Chapter 7:

Verse 21 reminds me of Psalm 91:7:

verse 21:

21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

Psalm 91:7:

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

This is a remarkable chapter....earlier, in verse 15, is a key to the heart that Gideon (AKA Jerubbaal, according to verse 1) had for God.

verse 15:

15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

He worshipped God. GOD came first, in EVERYTHING. In essence, he was THANKING, PRAISING, and GLORIFYING God for GOD'S already providing victory before Gideon even set foot towards the enemy. THIS was a man after God's own heart, similar to David. And HERE is the key to why he was a man of God.

How precious is that?

Judges Chapter 8

God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian.

Judges 8 verse 3

Thou called us not when thou wentest to fight the Midianites. Gideon 8:1

The tribe of Ephraim complained they were left out of the battle against the Midianites.

Re: chapter 8:

It's astounding how disrespectful these men were to Gideon (in verse 1)

Now the Ephraimites asked Gideon, “Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight Midian?” And they challenged him vigorously.

Then in verse 6:

6 But the officials of Sukkoth said, “Do you already have the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna in your possession? Why should we give bread to your troops?”

and again in verse 8:

8 From there he went up to Peniel[a] and made the same request of them, but they answered as the men of Sukkoth had.

And this is just despicable:

33 No sooner had Gideon died than the Israelites again prostituted themselves to the Baals. They set up Baal-Berith as their god 34 and did not remember the Lord their God, who had rescued them from the hands of all their enemies on every side. 35 They also failed to show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) in spite of all the good things he had done for them.

Judges 9

And a certain woman cast cast a piece of millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to break his skull.

Judges 9 verse 53

God intervened to ensure that King Abimelech was killed by a woman. Abimelech was a mighty warrior and had won many battles. Abimelech had slaughtered many people to become king and was an evil man.

Judges 9 verse 54 says that it was thought an insult for a warrior to be killed by a woman. King Abimelech was killed when a woman dropped a piece of millstone on his head, from a tower that Abimelech was attacking.

When the children of Israel got into dire straits they returned to God.

They were abominable to their prophets...it's despicable what they did after Gideon died and to his household (sons). They had no regard for them (or even kindness) whatsoever, even after there was 40 years of peace for them because Gideon was a Godly man and BELIEVED God.

33 And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baalberith their god.

34 And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

35 Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.

(just wonderin' why Gideon had two names...his other name was Jerubbaal)
