I was SOOOOO happy when C&C came in last. Then I almost screamed at the TV when it was announced that it was a non-elimination leg.

My Mom and I were laughin so hard when those too doe-doe brains couldn't figure out that you needed one person at the back of the blow, and one at the head of the water buffalo. And little Miss Prissy didn't want to get her feet dirty, and Colin was yelling at her to get her butt in there and help him, and she still whined "I don't want to get in that mud and get my feet wet." And talk about being absolutely juvenille about the "Yield". They know it's there and the possibility of it being used and then accuse Chip & Kim of cheating. :p What I don't get is the other teams not acknowledging that they would have done the same thing if C&K didn't get there first.

For a while I felt sorry for Christie because of the way Colin spoke to her. But after this following episode, I've come to the conclusion that they deserve each other. And the nerve of Christie to jump in the front seat with the jipnie driver and encouraging him to "just run over them". Yeah Christie, run over someone and get put in jail for manslaughter and never see the light of day from a Philippine prison.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there only two "yields"? So there are no more "Yield"s left.

Anyway, should be a very interesting two hour finale next week. This is the best TAR since the first season.

every team gets 1 yeild to use on another team during the race. once they use that up, no more for them. Your right Trip, there are only 2 fast forwards in the race.

From the Amazing Race website:

Each leg of the race has a YIELD point. Teams must stop at the YIELD location to do two things before continuing along the course: 1) They must check to see if they have been YIELDed by another team; 2) If no Team has been YIELDed, they must decide whether to use the YIELD or not. If a Team is YIELDed, they must turn over the hourglass and wait until all the sand runs out before they may continue with the race. A Team may use the YIELD to stop another Team only once throughout the entire course of the race. However, there is no limit to the number of times that a Team can be YIELDed by the other Teams.

gosh, USincognito, what a simply wonderful, thoughtless post you just created! "And Christie, if you're reading this.. please be wearing that white top next week" what's that all about?! you don't have any respect for these women except to stare at their bodies?! thats pretty sad. I'm not a big fan of Christie, but both Christie and Nicole deserve some better treatment than that.

Oh lighten up. For the entire season I've been posting salient comments about the participants, the locations, the aspects of the game and how I'm going to take a photo of myself flipping the bird at Cafe Nostra. Forgive me for making two sentences of comments about Christie in a post, the majority of which discussed the progess of the Race.

Maybe I should go back and cut and paste all the ooowing and awwwing over Brandon's hair from the women. You can love a show like I do TAR and not have to check your testoserone at the door.

Now, I had a conversation last night with some co-workers who are also fans and I realized why I don't hate Colin and Christie as much as I hated Flo (but not Zach). Colin turns into a rectum when he's frustrated, but Flo was a whiner. I can handle jerks/female dogs over whiners any time. For as big a jerks as the Brothers were, when Lance couldn't walk, they never whined. Also Colin and Christie are actually in a relationship, whereas poor Zach has unrequited love for Flo. I despise people who are in unequal relationships treating their partners badly so Flo is a few steps higher on my revileometer.

Colin and Christie remind me more of Terri and Ian. Ian redeemed himself during the VietNam leg and I was rooting for them to win. I still am rooting evenly for all 4 teams, but only because C&C have been so dominant, not because they have redeemed themselves in any way (ala Ian).

As far as this season being the best, I can't say that. I'm such a fanboy of this show that I have loved each of them equally. But I will say this... the mercifully early elimination of Big Brother Allison and Donnie probably saved this season for me. :D

On a programming note, my local CBS station is showing football in TV Guide for Saturday, so I'm not sure if there will be a rerun that night. And don't forget if you have to tape the show - the finale is two hours. The best part about the finale? Only a few weeks until the next season of The Amazing Race!

Bowling Moms are representing for chunky middle-aged moms nation wide

And Christie, if you're reading this.. please be wearing that white top next week.

"please be wearing that white top next week" is more offensive than discribing someone as "chunky and middle aged"?!

Someone dresses immodestly and someone notices, and you feel sorry for her, and yell at him? While someone who is probably like your own mother does a good job and gets these "nice" adjectives ascribed to them , and that's okay?!

Maybe I should click my heels together three times, to get back to reasonable perspective world.

Actually there are only two fast forwards in the race, there is a yield every leg, although, that may change in this final leg. I couldn't believe that it was a non-elimination leg. I still can't figure out why Christie keeps falling back into Colin's arms time after time of being screamed at. He is a time bomb, ticking, he seems like the kind of person who might be abusive. I thought that she would be able to see that, but I suppose that I overestimated her intellect.

Thank you fieldmouse for agreeing with me. The chunky comment wasn't all that great either Oldsoul....I simply noticed the whole white shirt thing first because it was a product of lusting on his part. Lets all say it together....lusting...is...bad.

Wow! Really, just wow. Are you actually a 23 year old male? I'm serious, this sort of mentality is utterly foreign to me.

But let's check the tale of the tape. Here's a comparison of Christie's "immodest" clothing, and Nichole's clothing.

ep11_14.jpg

Red with spagetti straps

ep11_04.jpg

White with inch thick shoulder straps

As far as these wardrobe decisions being "immodest" I guess Old Soul has never lived in the Philippenes. Since there was snow in Russia, I can safely assume that it's summer south of the Equator. That mean's Manilla is going to be 95 degrees and 120% humidity. It's hot. My dad was assigned to Clark, AFB when I was a toddler so I don't remember what the environment was like, but my mom tells me it was sweltering. The lightest top possible isn't immodest, but given the physical nature of the Race, a good idea.

Now about the Bowling Moms. The same myopia I blame for this focus on my focus on Christie is clouding the issue. My whole point is that despite not being athletic - and more importantly with the remaining teams not having a strong male to take road blocks/detours - the mom's are kicking butt.

I don't think you'd describe them as svelte, athletic and young would you OS? And yet, as the last four approach the finish line, they come in second in front of the two younger co-ed teams. They Rock! They beat the "athletic" Blunder Twins with regularity. They hauled that granite at Giza. They rode the rapids. Karen kicked butt climbing up to the bridge. I don't even think I could have made it up there. They deserve to be in the final four because they've consistently performed physically despite being chunky and middle aged.

That's why I was rooting for Teri and Ian. Everyone on the boards I posted to hated them because of Ian's personality. I loved them because they were in their 50s and we beating teams 20-30 years younger than them.

Well, enough about me and my opinions. For those of you interested, a little bit of culture and taxonomy. The "ox" that was used in the Detour isn't really an ox. It's a water buffalo called a Carabao, not to be confused with a Caribou. It's the national animal of the Philippines, and until very recently, my family had an ashtray and carved ebony table with a Carabao motif. Not every bovine beast of burden is a ox.

US, first off, what kind of mentality do you think I have?? Obviously you don't even think I have one. I, in no way, shape, or form, compared Christie's and Nichole's clothing! Your looking at that for a way out of this. I never said anything about Christie's shirt because you said nothing. What they wear during the race doesn't matter at all to me, and I have no doubt that it was hot there in the Philippines. I'm sure is was swealtering. You said in your post "You can love a show like I do TAR and not have to check your testoserone at the door." Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that translate to you checking out the ladies? Well, you can love a show like TAR, and love it just for the game, without committing sin.

As far as describing the bowling moms as "chunky", i'm absolutely positive there are better ways of describing them. Saying someone is chunky is just downright rude. I'm done arguing, I have better things to do with my time.

The carabao is still used in farming as modern farm equipment is almost non-exsistant in the rural farm areas. The rice fields are still tilled with the hand plow and carabao. And it's pretty fun to ride too......when you're a kid that is. :D

I also have a wooden carabao pulling a cart somewhere in my house. Don't exactly know where we put. But I know we still have it........somewhere.

Okay, I guess it's time for me to give you all a good talking to, like your Mother would if she was here. (or would if she was worth her salt at any rate.)

I, being a 41 year old, middle aged, and chunky (size 10, instead of a size 5 like I was 20 years ago) Mom. Find the desparaging and offensive remarks made about women like me overtly offensive and hurtful. How could they not be? Society has an attitude that women like me have no value. And do you know who propagandizes that attitude? Young men primarily, and young women back them up for some ungodly reason. It's a shame that you can not see how valuable middle aged mothers are. And talk about them with the respect they deserve or not at all!

I agree with Old Soul. Nobody defended the Moms when those remarks were made. It was as if that was okay. Common, accepted. And I was offended by them. I don't think I addressed it at the time. But since it's been made into this thing, this thing that nobody will apologize for, or regret. I can't act like it didn't happen anymore.

Did your mother ever tell you this? "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". I'm here. Be considerate of that fact. It's almost over. See if you can act like grown ups until it is, for my sake if for no other reason.

Thank You.

Camels featured prominently in Egypt and Dubai, and I had experience with camels when I was a young boy in Iran. Unlike the Carabao, I do remember the camels. One interesting thing is the ranges of the two species of domestic camels.

The Dromedary:
camel2.gif

is utilized almost exclusively in North Africa and the Arabian Penninsula.

The further east you go, starting in Iraq/Iran you are more likely to encounter the Bactrian:
bactcamel.jpg

And Bactrians were what I encountered in Iran. The neighborhood we lived in was called Tehran Pars and was a fairly upscale place. Nonetheless, a camel herder would come through once in a while selling dung. We used it on the small yard we had and I remember the grass was very green and our roses were beautiful.

I still, 30 years later, still have a camel saddle chair we purchased in Iran. I would post a pic of it, but I'm at work, and it's at home, plus 10 years of my cats using it as a scrathing post has made me embarassed to share a photo of it.

I think I have a picture of my hubby kissing a camel like the first one when he was deployed to Egypt. Hehe, should I be concerned about that??

I'd like to see that. You just reminded me of a commercial from some years ago featuring photos of a family on a trip. In the last photo is a camel and the mom voices over, "why is that camel smiling." I swear, the camel did look like it was smiling.

LOL, sorry to disappoint you, but I found the pic and it's not a camel, it's a donkey. :eek:and it's not Egypt, it's Haiti. Can you tell I'm no geography scholar? Anyway, I would hate to subject the forum to such depravity. One of his naughty friends slipped something a tad stronger than water in his canteen, and seeing how he was missing me terribly at the time...lol, well, I wouldn't want to offend the more virtuous eyes. ;)

I do have lots of pictures of Egyptian camels, though...but most of them are in the middle of the garbage dump the soldiers used...the local kids would collect the garbage to try to see if they could find anything to sell. Very sad.

From what I understand camels are pretty ornery, and IIRC they do spit which is an odd behavior for a animal from an arid climate. You figure they'd want to conserve all body moisture possible and would use a head butt or a kick to get people away from them. Or maybe their just trying to get the sand out of their mouths. :D
