I happened upon an elderly friend outside on of my thrift store haunts this afternoon. The following conversation ensued:
Friend: Hello, Hawthorne!
Hawthorne: Hello, Friend; it's been a while!
Friend: Oh! Is that your woman waiting for you? *motions to nearby car into which a young woman has just entered*
Hawthorne: No, no.
Friend: That's a pretty girl!
Hawthorne: ...I've never seen her before...
Friend: You know, there's a Nicaraguan lady that's interested in me...
Hawthorne: Oh, yes? (I'd heard.)
Friend: She's wanting me to bring her into the country...
Hawthorne: Oh, really?
Friend: ... to get... hitched.
Hawthorne: Oh, my!
Friend: 'Course there was also that nineteen-year-old Nicaraguan girl that had a shine for me...*
Hawthorne: ........ (I'd also heard about this shortlived flame)
Friend: She wanted to get married, too.
Hawthorne: Ah, ha.
Friend: But that all changed. Thought I was too... controlling.
Hawthorne: Ah, hmm... (It was at this point the subject changed.)
* He's not a creep, honestly; no one was sure what was up with this situation.
He better be careful about those ladies. hahahaha. They may not be who they claim to be.
Haha, nice! That awkward moment when you reinstall one of your old favorite first person shooter's on your computer, you're doing really really good and are like "wow I'm still good at this game!" - only to realize after about 15-20 minutes of playing you've been playing against bots![]()

Nope, I can't say that's ever happened to me. lolHave you ever had that moment where you know you know someone, but you're not sure where you know them from. So do the whole "Hi, how are you so and so" dance, only to realise you only know them because they're been unusually forthcoming about themselves on an internet forum and actually have no idea who you are?
Or maybe they do, but they're stuck in the same overly polite greetings dance whilst their brain desperately tries to find your face in their catalogue of known individuals.
In hind sight a simple "I'm from Forum too, I recognised you from your frequent posting of selfies and Ma La Sichuan dishes" would have avoided all the awkwardness.
Yikes. they aren't legally allowed to deny you a break, are they? I know at my work, breaks are mandated by law. That awkward moment when you're denied the rest of your break because of a "staff meeting", only to hand them a notice of resignation after the fact.
That was my last straw. What happens if I got hurt at work and I am forced to say that I didn't take all of my breaks that day? I would be denied a claim, legally. Management no longer has any interest in my safety or rightful claims.
