  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's what I thought. Some musicians spent their entire careers making personal songs. Where better to find inspiration than to look inward and write about a failed romance or a personal experience?
I'm fine with "me music". Its some of my favorite.

But I agree with "the rise of..." because its starting to eclipse everything else, mainly in pop.

Well I miss Neil Peart and all his wonderfully heady lyrics....

Nice. He's my original drum hero, who got me into the instrument. Lots of his lyrics are really great too - with a wide range of topics explored, some of it quite personal/biographical, lots of it observational and philosophical - as you know.

Yes, he is very good....but I am partial to Peart! My daughter loves anything Maynard. He has a winery here in Arizona.
Oh, I wasn't pitting one against the other. I do like Neil. I find myself admiring heavy metal drummers these days ... particularly if they can manage both speed and precision. (Of course, without precision, what's the point.) Mario Duplantier from Gojira is good example.

Edit: *wasn't

Interesting....It certainly does have a similar sound to System of a Down.

It's metalcore. IDK what SOAD is. They are kinda their own thing. This is Christian, unlike SOAD.

She's a witch literally. I can't stand her music. Look up Anton LaVey & his daughter Zeena. Gross!
I can't believe posters expect readers to take things like this seriously.

What do you think of Danny Carey:

I have a lot of respect because he's very precise and powerful, with some thoughtful parts. But I feel like Im the only person in the world who isnt thrilled by Tool. To me they have a plodding vibe.

You mentioned Duplantier and I like him a lot. For heavy drumming Brad Wilk from Rage is one of my favorites. Not complex, but the feel and sound is spot on.

You should check out this band. They have been described as like "early Metallica with heavier drumming." They have a female-fronted vocalist. They are not likely to put out any more music, but still are still technically "active." This song is one of if not my absolute favorite closing to an album. The band is Adorned in Ash

Thats pretty alright. For me they are missing harmonic interest. The chord changes and the chord forms are kind of ho-hum. The execution is nice. And thats a gal singing? Thats kind of impressive.
